Known Background: Ian served as an officer in the Royal Air Force during World War Two, first participating in the Battle of Britain. He attained a total of eleven air to air victories while flying the Supermarine Spitfire before crashing upon landing in 1942. While convalescing from his injuries Ian served as an intelligence office for the remainder of the war. After World War Two, Ian began to work for MI6. Although he served across the globe he became an expert in the Orient.

In 1964 Ian 'retired' from government service and began to work for Pearce Industrial Consultants as a member of its Hong Kong office. For eleven years Ian worked as a 'traveling consultant.' In 1975 he transitioned to the 'management' side of the company, managing the companies 'traveling consultants' within the Orient.
