Maggie Cleary is of an age that makes strangers pause uneasily to wonder whether she's Cleary's grown daughter or a very young wife. In fact, she's neither - she's his niece, sent over in the hopes of better prospects and the motherly care of Cleary's wife, who unfortunately died whilst Maggie was in passage. Still, the lass has made the best of things, and is known for her lively mind and bright nature.
