Sally Jane Towler is a rare creature, a female poacher caught by sheer chance and the local squire's pack of hounds. It's said he offered her freedom at a price she was unwilling to pay and turned her father off the estate in spite whilst she was incarcerated, indirectly leading to the old man contracting the sickness that killed him. She wasn't in the "brothel ship", but she won't talk about the trip over, either.

Once you can get her to talk about anything, however, Miss Towler has a strong sense of humour and a broad kind of warmth to her demeanour. Working downriver but often up supplying Madame d'Anjou's tavern, she's known to be firm but fair and as fearsomely strong in the grip as a milkmaid.
