Sayde

Sayde was born to a flighty mother and an absentee father. A lot of time was spent trying to make ends meet here and there. Work was varied and scarce. Eventually, her mother tried settling down with a new man, and Sayde took this as her time to leave.

After getting involved with petty crime and smuggling, Sayde's natural talent for brawling was recognized by a nearby monastery. After training there for some years, she was expelled on the basis that her character wasn't becoming of a monk. She was caught running illegal pit fights and other illicit activities such as drinking and gambling.

Not long after her expulsion, she receives a letter from her mysterious father telling her to return home.

Relationships

Abbot Heskan - Dragonborn Monk - Head of the Monastery
"Heskan brought me in after he saw my talent for brawling. I thought it would be good to train 24/7 in the company of professionals, but he was always going on about philosophy, and character, and discipline. Such an old codger. We’d spend half of our time cleaning, meditating and preparing food instead of training ourselves. Who could be surprised that I would look for places to fight outside of the monastery after being treated like that? He said he saw something in me, and he could bring out my true character in time. Guess he was wrong about something. Maybe all of his philosophy really is just hot air. Haven’t seen him since leaving.

Drong – Dwarf monk
“One of the best brawlers I’ve seen, and one of the only monks at the monastery who had a good head on his shoulders. He’d show up to the lectures and meditation, keep his head down, and save his energy for the fighting later. He’d get some of his buddies to bring over some “sacred libation” to sip on every now and then. It was great when I could get him off of the temple grounds. He’d damn near knock the head off his rivals. Great guy. I bet his still at the monastery wasting his talents.”

Ilmra – Drow smuggler
“Ilmra was a pain in the ass to work with. She thought everyone was trying to get the best of her. In her line of work, she was probably right. You definitely want to stay on her good side. See, she’s a “people person.” When I say that, I mean that people are her trade. If you need to find someone, move someone, or “conscript” someone for “coerced labor,” she’s the one to talk with. She takes out her river boat after dusk and skims the countryside, heading back into the underdark with her goods come dawn. She could find me fighters to participate in my underground pit fights quickly. I met her moving some cargo while trying to make some money before I shacked up at the monastery. I could still catch her when she was in the area. A bad person to have stalking you, but a good person to know.”

Karnom – Human monk
“Pigheaded asshole. And a closet drunk. He’s a high-ranking member of a rival monastery. At first I thought he’d be good to have around, but he spoiled all the pots. Nobody would bet against the guy, and he would never lose. I told him to get lost, and he really kicked my teeth in; what was I supposed to do? He’s been training for years—nobody can lay a hand on him. I know the bastard was the one who snitched on me, too. I hope he’s in a ditch somewhere with a swollen liver.”
