Welcome to Putting the Band Back Together

13:25, 30th April 2024 (GMT+0)

CJ

Name: CJ - aka Charlotta Janetta
Age: Apparently, 29
Role in the band: Guitarist and backing vocals.

What's She Been Up To Since The Band Split?
She's not really kept up with her music as much as she should. She's good, but since the band broke up, she's never joined another group. She did try doing solo acoustic open mic stuff, but she never really felt right. She still plays in private. It's one of the few things that can make her feel calm and right again.

She toyed with being a private detective. She actually got her PI licence, but found that her issues made getting clients hard, and keeping them was almost impossible. She quickly realised that she was not cut out to be a shamus, and applied to the police academy. Despite all her adventures, she didn't have anything on record to prevent them taking her.

Who she is now:
CJ is a detective in the Chicago PD. She's been doing it a couple of years. If she looks back, she finds she cannot make the timeline of her life work out somehow, and she has blackouts in her memories. Any time she tries to force through them and work out why, she ends up unconscious and has the world's most awful migraine when she comes round. She's actually good at her job, but has been shifted to the cold case unit, as very few people want to work with her. However, her experience in unravelling apparently impossible puzzles, and solving crimes that are too weird to make sense to normal people, means that she has a surprisingly high rate of success in closing those cold cases.

She has no romantic interest, very few friends, and spends most of her free time in the gym, with her guitar, or propping up the counter in the bar where many local cops go to try to numb the way they feel.

How screwed up is she?
Very. She's got one hell of a case of PTSD. There are things that happened to her that are blocked out of her memory, and given that things she can remember are pretty awful, what she has blocked out must be truly dreadful. She's got a hell of a short fuse, a set of triggers that just keeps getting longer, and very few ways of dealing with it all. So far, she's managed to avoid crawling into a bottle to hide, and uses her workout routine as a crutch to burn off all the energy she wants to pump into beating the crap out of something to let off steam. In fact, her mental state is so screwed up that she has just been placed on medical leave (with pay - the CPD aren't monsters, they won't leave her without an income while she gets needed medical help) and is being forced to go to a residential psychiatric centre for observation and evaluation. She absolutely does not want to go, and is going to do everything she can to be uncooperative. But... she also knows that she needs help. Sooner or later,
she is going to snap and someone is going to get very badly hurt - possibly a colleague, or maybe even herself.

She needs answers. She thinks they lie in the parts of her memory that have been buried. She believes that, whatever is there, and whoever she is trying to avoid thinking about, they will hold the key to the totally screwed up memories she can remember. She recalls her time with her teenage friends fairly well, but since it never seems to fit together properly, she cannot be sure how much of it is real, how much is an illusion, and if anything she remembers is remotely trustworthy.

She needs help. Maybe her old friends can provide it. We shall see as the game develops...
