Description: (Faceclaim: Charlie Hunnam) Tall with an incredibly athletic build, his physicality is very much a sign of his fighting prowess. He keeps his hair relatively short for ease of care and to mitigate its possible use against him in a fight. He has many scars, most from his youth, but no small amount from his time as a squire under Ser Beren.

Background: Scooped up as a squire as a youth, the young orphan, large for his age, caught the eye of a wandering knight, Ser Beren. Particularly when he saw the young boy in action. A bully to bullies. Mathias often took it upon himself to protect others from the predations of others street urchins, and sometimes adults, for that matter, as best he could.

He accepted, a little reluctantly at first, knowing he would have to leave some of the weaker children, but the chance for something better for himself...and the chance to come back and possibly right some wrongs was too great to pass up.

Only recently knighted, he has been squire to Hedge Knight Ser Beren of Oldcastle for the last decade. Ser Beren had earned a fair reputation during the Blackfyre Rebellions, as well as various local skirmishes and his efforts to curb some of the banditry wherever he might be. His squire, however, while having shown great promise and whose efforts greatly assisted the knight in the last handful of years, in particular, was left largely out of the stories associated with the older warrior.

With Beren feeling his age, he knew it was time to push his squire out of the nest, so to speak. While still quite spry in his advancing years, he took advantage of an opportunity become landed, a sworn knight to House Kartark. With his errant days over, the man elevated his squire to Knight and parted ways on good terms.

Mathias, being used to traveling and still wishing to see more of the North and, possibly, the rest of Westeros, took on the mantle of traveling knight to try and establish himself. While no small part of him enjoyed the idea of being brought into the fold of a noble house based on his own credentials, the idea of continuing his existence as an errant knight remained a more than satisfying alternative.

Personality: A man driven to do the right thing as best he can. Bright, but not overly well educated in more esoteric pursuits. He has clearly focused on his strengths, that of fighting, warfare and some measure of leadership.
