Background: Enrique was born on the estate of his parents, which was located near Ciudad Juárez close to the USA border. His family was somewhat well off and thus, Enrique received some basic education concerning literacy and the knowledge of the English language, together with his younger sister Juana. But whatever plans his parents had for him were cut short when Enrique was 14 years old. One night, armed men attacked the estate, burning it to the ground

Enrique and his sister Juana fled the estate, but got separated on the way and their parents were killed by the armed men. To this day, Enrique doesn't know why this happened. Perhaps it was some business rival of his father who hired the men to take out the competition or someone who held a grudge against the Vega family. Who knows.

Enrique spent some time wandering on his own, until he was found by a band of Banditos. They decided to take the young man among them and teach him the tricks of the trade. In a few years, Enrique was a full-fledged bandit, riding out with the gang, robbing stagecoaches, rustling cattle and whatever else      . The gang avoided hurting innocent people both because it would bring more heat on them and also due to some informal code of honor they had, prefering to intimidate people if they were hesitant in handing over their valuables.

However, one day, the Federales set a trap for the gang and they were all shot and killed during the ensuing gunfight. Except Enrique, who wasn't with the gang that time, having stayed behind to guard the hideout. Once he found out what had happened, he took whatever he could carry and crossed the US border before the Federales would find the gang's hideout and realize that there was still one last gang member unaccounted for.

While travelling the US, he received new that his sister Juana might still be alive. Aparently, his family had some relatives living in Texas who lived near a town called Mad Mesa and Juana was taken in by them. Thus, he decided to see for himself if the news were real.
