Tar'kaiel Olonorin

Appearance: Tar'kaiel stands at 5'7 with the fine features of all elfkind. His eyes are pale blue and his black hair to his shoulderblades, most often kept back from his face with a few narrow braids threaded through with red cord. His hunting leathers and cloak help him blend easily into the background when he desires.

History: It’s hard not to be good at what you do when you’ve been raised from birth to be subtle, insubstantial, to go without notice. The Olonorin family have built a rock solid reputation and there is no room for anyone who can’t uphold it.

Tar’kaiel’s upbringing, like that of all his family members, was directed entirely towards the furtherance of the family business. The games he played with his siblings, cousins and extended family weren’t just for simple fun. Hide and seek, blind man’s bluff, Mr. Wolf and other such games honed their skills from a very young age.

Before the war, the Olonorin family already worked diligently for the ir’Kade family gathering intel (they don’t call it spying - that’s far too crass a word). When war broke out, the ir’Kane sent them as a matter of course to the front line to do that very job, running information back across the lines.

The entire family went, because that was how they operated, only a small core of the clan left behind to watch over those too young or too old to make the journey and do the work. They were there, in the shadows, when the battles were at their bloodiest.

And they were there when the Mourning rolled across Cyre.

Tar’kaiel and his kin were naturally fast, and very few people knew they were even there, so they were able to flee more rapidly than some of the companies and soldiers could manage. But some of them were deeper, roaming further, and none of the family could risk going out to get them.

It was over and they were preparing to pull out when Tar’kaiel’s elder brother did find his way home. But the Mourning had taken him apart and put him back together in a way that was unnatural. A monster that tore into a cousin before anyone could stop it. It was sizing up its next target when Tar’kaiel, as always, did what had to be done. One arrow, two, three and it was still coming for him, snarling and angry at his choice. It was hampered but not halted by the time it got to him and the battle was vicious, but Tar’kaiel eventually ended it.

After the war, he and his family moved on, as they were wont to do. They have only recently returned to Sharn and re-established contact with Emmlyn.
