Elegast Dominus

The Basics
Name: Elegast Dominus
Nicknames: The Gentleman, Erlking, Harlequin, Alberich, Sir, Master, Dominus, Daddy
Age: Approx. 5000 years - this incarnation (appearance varies)
Species: Faerie King

The Appearance
Weight: 165 lbs., 205 lbs., 1300 lbs.
Height: 6'4", 6'2", 10'5"
Physical Description:
Elegast in his human guise, appears as a man in his late 40's to mid 50's, with salt and pepper hair, though this is the only place on his entire body where he has hair. He is quite well built, with a lean musculature; athletic and fit. He has a medium skin tone, perhaps slightly tanned, as a Caucasian male. He stands a couple inches over six feet in height, and weighs a little over two hundred pounds. Due do his decent build he looks rather good no matter what he wears and can be found on the island in jeans and tees and various casual wear just as often as a fine suit. In his role as administrator of the island he does tend to wear dapper clothing, though wears a myriad of styles in his other roles.

In his more natural state, as Faerie King, Elegast's appearance is quite different. He is taller, but lighter and more slim, and though his build is still athletic he is obviously quite slender. His skin is ashen, gray, since he belongs to neither the Summer nor the Winter Court and is the King of both. His hair is light, a very pale cream color, and his eyes have no pupils. His light hair and white eyes represent Winter. He has several horns that grow from his head, as well as a crown of branches. His ears are pointed, like those of an elf, though hidden beneath his hair. His lower extremities are that of a raven, perhaps showing his ties between the material world and the spirit world as ravens are said to do. His cloak appears as autumn leaves and fades into wheat-like grasses, representing Summer. Animals of all types, but especially birds, are drawn to this form.

His last natural form is also known as the Master of the Forest, and is a war-like shape of immense size and shape. In this form Elegast grows to over ten feet in height, his mass and weight growing sevenfold. He still retains a generally humanoid shape, though as in his natural form he walks digitigrade, with cloven hooves. His skin is covered in a bark-like carapace, and he wields terrible claws. His head is that of a predator of some undetermined type and he grows antlers. This form seems a strange mix of plant and animal.

In all of his forms the smell of wildflowers and petrichor follow him. The air about the King is warm and inviting, though in times of anger the air around him becomes frigid.

Distinguishing Features:
Each form is distinguished in its own way; the salt and pepper hair of his human form, the avian legs of his Fae form, and the vegetative/predator aspect of his Warbeast.

The Human
Personality:
Elegast's various physical forms each have their own personality but they are all still very similar.

Having been the Fairy King for almost three thousand years now, at least in this incarnation, Elegast is known as a benevolent and fair ruler. He has a flexible code that he follows, seeing things in various shades of right and wrong. There are still things that, as a ruler, absolutely break the law.

On a more personal level Elegast is a kind and easy-going Fae. He, like most of his kind, is immortal. This depth of life experience cannot be obtained by one that is angry or oppressive. The weight of ruling does carry its own disadvantages, yet Elegast bears all of this with grace and kindness.

In his private life with his wife he can be demanding at times, but only in sexual matters. He is, at all times, her Master, even in the softness of lovemaking. She can be said to be his one true weakness, and a slight against her is often met with wrath.

He is ever mindful of the world of Men, and does not underestimate them as many of his ilk do. He would much rather foster peace with mortals, though that would seem to be beyond their short lifetimes to grasp. He sees humans but little humanity and that saddens him.

Mundane Skills:
Elegast loves games, and as such would be considered an expert in almost all of them. From board games to even video games, he finds them wonderful. He is also quite adept at a variety of musical instruments. One needs a myriad of hobbies to wile away the centuries.

Occupation:
Other than ruling over the supernatural world Elegast also is the owner of Lapisque Angularis.

Goals:
To build a utopian sanctuary for deserving mortals and immortals alike.

Fears:
His deepest fear would be an all out conflict between the supernatural and the mortal world. He has shied away from allowing the mortal realm to discover the Fae, and thus keeps The Veil drawn tight save for a few special mortals. These men and women are bound by the Wyrd to never reveal what they know.

The Not So Human
Species Description:
Faerie King. There is only one King, though many male nobles. There are actually several Queens, and when mortals think of Fae Royalty that is usually whom they think of. The King is "The King of All That is Supernatural" and in fact does reign over all supernatural and preternatural beings, though rarely interferes with them unless a great transgression is committed.

All supernatural beings sprung from the Erlking, Elegast. Some of those beings - Odin and his lessers, Zeus and his, angels, demons, etc - all are Children of Oberon. They are vassals of Elegast, and his children.

As King the position has been passed down from generation to generation, or rather from incarnation to incarnation, through a hereditary line. As the solitary King he reigns over all four Courts of the Fae; Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, and represents all those seasons. Each Court has its' own Queen, and his wife, Philapine, is the Lady of Spring and next in line to be the Spring Queen.

Powers and Abilities:
Elegast is a being of immense magical power. In the Feywild, where the island is located, he is a god. His powers upon the mortal realm are different and more limited. However, on the Island his powers are as follows:

Flight and Teleportation: Though these are rather self explanatory Elegast has the powers of flight and teleportation while upon the Island.

Consummate Shapechanger: This power allows Elegast to take the form of any supernatural creature, from the smallest pixie to the largest dragon. This does not necessarily confer the powers of the form he assumes.

Absolute Elemental and Molecular Manipulation: This is, by far, his most powerful ability as King. He can create things from nothing, and break down anything into another element or into nothing as well. The ultimate Conjuration and Transmutation magic, this ability allows Elegast to do almost anything so long as he can imagine it. This is the power used upon criminals when they commit murder and Elegast erases them from existence, for example.

In essence Elegast can do anything that he can imagine, and his only weaknesses are the laws he imposes upon himself and cold iron.

Vulnerabilities:
Elegast's highest vulnerability is in the mortal realm, where his power is greatly curbed. However some few beings have the ability to possibly nullify magic. Elegast is still a fearsome foe, but if his magic is somehow cut off he is made more vulnerable.

The Story
Character Background:
Born from the former King, Oberon, and actually given that as his birth name, Elegast was brought up as one of Fae Royalty. It was from his former incarnations, that he learned how to rule benevolently, firmly but fairly. The Fae do not tolerate wanton cruelty, and even the Unseelie of the Winter Court are not needlessly cruel. He was, in so many ways, bred to rule, and after a handful of millennia his former incarnation, his "father" tired of his rule and passed his crown to his "son". At this time he chose his own Name, and chose Elegast. That was three millennia ago.

The transition to his throne was seamless, with nary a complaint from any Court. Elegast often sojourned to the World of Men, curious. What he saw was both a depth of selflessness and the height of savagery. Men, so short lived, and embracing their fellow man as they also slaughtered one another. Yet there were within them a great and shining light that Elegast hoped to bring to the fore.

It was one one of these journeys that a young Nymph ran into him. Literally. It was, despite the flighty nature of the Fae, love at first sight. He started to court Philapine, and after an acceptable time, several hundred years by human standards, he took her hand in marriage. It was not long after this that they began to make their Island - a place of solitude and relaxation, but also with something else in mind as a unique place for those who were special to congregate.

How did you come to be at the Island?:
Elegast is The Gentleman, and thus the ruler of the Island. It was made through his power in the Feywild as a utopia to be shared with mortals and immortals alike where they can make their fantasies reality.
