Vivienne Courte

The Basics

Name: Vivienne Courte
Nickname: Viv, Vivie, V
Age: 21
Species: Human

The Appearance

Weight: 135 lbs
Height: 5'5''
Physical Description: Vivienne looks very...average. She is of average height and average weight, with soft curves, though she feels slightly top heavy if you get my drift. Years of practicing with aerial silks, rock climbing and of course yoga has kept her firm and slight though there has always been that sneaky bit of extra that just doesn't seem to want to leave. That could just be all in her head though. Long chocolate locks frame the naturally tan and heart shaped face. Full lips generally tipped in a sly grin and bright green eyes framed by dark lashes give her the permanent look of someone who may be doing something tricky behind the scenes, though sometimes that may be true, Viv was fairly innocent in many respects.

Generally Vivienne's sense of style seems to have no real sense to it. She may wear a pair of ripped jeans and her chucks one day and on another she may be in a boho flowery dress. Another she may be seen in athleisure wear. The only constant is that often times shes only found wearing converse or boots, no heels for this little lady. They are uncomfortable and impossible to run in, why put yourself through that?

Distinguishing Features: Many many freckles as well as a large scar coming from just under her right shoulder blade and twisting along her torso across her side and ending just under her belly button and above her right hip.

The Human

Personality: Vivienne is....happy. Despite the hand life has dealt her thus far and how she has had to persevere, Vivienne tends to be an optimistic realist. Its much too easy to hang onto the hurt and who wants to go through life doing that? It would be a waste, and she absolutely does not want to waste her life. With a deep love of sarcasm and anything that tips her curiosity (which most things do), she has a pretty introspective personality, but as always, things slip through the cracks.

Not to say shes all happy bubbly all the time. She certainly has a dark side, a pained one, that she rarely lets anyone close enough to see. Its as if she keeps everyone at an arms length, its easier that way in her mind. They don't leave and the don't lie to you and most certainly they don't die. She can be stubborn as hell when it comes to doing things that she doesn't want to do, but when she does commit to something, Vivienne commits herself fully. She tries to see the people around her as good instead of bad immediately, but the urge to run from strangers can be strong within her. After all she had been through, she had spent much of her life waiting to see what monster lurked around the corner and doing everything she could to not let it stop her from living her actual life.

Mundane Skills: Rock climbing & scuba diving. She is secretly a very good cook though she doesn't let people know this lest they come to her for meals all the time. She knows some survival skills, but generally rock climbing, aerial silks and scuba diving are her bread and butter.

Occupation: Yoga Instructor / Rock Climbing guide on the side. Shes a full time student most often.

Goals: Figuring out what the heck this Island is and who are all these people?

Fears: Finding out what attacked her, growing old alone, regretting her life.

The Story
Character Background:

Vivienne was born at approximately 12:00 AM on the date of January 1st. She was one of the first babies born within the new year. The beginning of change, the beginning of life, the beginning of the year. Her grandmother always said it made her special, it made her different, but honestly, Vivienne just felt frustrated that she had to share her birthday with the international get drunk and yell holiday. Perhaps it was different elsewhere though.

She had been dropped off with her unsuspecting father, very much a baby in a basket on his doorstep. The product of a short relationship that was going nowhere fast and had ended several months prior and leaving her father with the biggest surprise of his life. Through out her life, her mother never made a reappearance, though her father did talk about her. Vivienne honestly had no want to meet her. Jack Courte was the perfect dad and mom she could ever ask for. The two of them lived in a modest three bedroom farmhouse in a small town on the west coast of the United States for the majority of her life. Jack's mother, Vivienne's grandmother lived with the pair of them and took care of her most of her childhood.

It wasn't perfect, but it worked for them. When Vivienne was around eight though, she had wandered into the surrounding forested area late one night, somehow walked out of her house in the middle of the night without anyone noticing. The official reports said she had been sleepwalking, but Vivienne always felt that was wrong and she tried telling people that, but no one believed something had 'called her into the forest' in the dead of night.

Her father found her, alone and in the dirt with a large gash running from her back to her front screaming her head off and tears flowing down her cheeks. No one knew what had happened in the time between Vivienne walking out of her house and her father finding her and the case was marked unsolved though Vivienne lived with the reminder of the scarring even for the remainder of her life.

As Vivienne aged, her grandmother passed and her father began a bad drinking habit. It got worse and worse as the years went by and by the time Vivienne was getting ready to go off to college, her father had been diagnosed with liver failure. The end happened quick. It wasn't drawn out, unlike his addiction and the violence that ensued because of it. It wasn't physical, he would never put a mark on her body, but it was emotional. It was mental. It was words and picking him up drunk from the bar. It was getting a part time job to pay the bills that slipped through the cracks when Vivienne's father couldn't bother to sober up enough for his job. It was missing the father who had run out to save her from the darkness as a child and very quickly, it was missing her father at all.

Vivienne deferred college for a year, to grieve, to deal, to understand and to push back the darkness that threatened to consume her before leaving to go to one of the higher Universities where she studied Sociology with a minor in interior architecture.

How did you come to be at the Island?:
It was at Univeristy she met her absolutely off the walls roomie for this year. Vivienne had opted to stay in the dorms for her senior year rather than grab an apartment off campus and with it, she met the most elusive and oversharing individual of her life. Her roommate was Cherise and boy was she all over the place. Playing tricks most often, the two of them grew at least semi close over the semester and enough for Cherise to invite her to a party that one of the frat houses were throwing. Though Vivienne didn't usually attend, she threw her concerns to the wayside for the night and decided to just enjoy what life would bring them.

Vivienne knew something wasn't quite right when Cherise was slurring her words much quicker than she usually would have been. The girl could outdrink her by tenfold. Her worry became more immediate concern as she was searching for Cherise through the night and found out one of the frat bros had pulled her up to his room. Vivienne's instincts had told her something wasn't right and she went quickly to go find Cherise. The position she found her in was heartbreaking, though she wasn't too late, she most certainly could have been.

It wasn't easy, but she got her roommate away from the would-be rapist and to the Universities medical department eventually. Things moved quickly after that and slow at the same time. The medical staff did their due diligence while Cherise recovered from whatever they had given her to mess with her system. It wasn't until the two of them were back in their room where Cherise broke down. This had definitely broken a good chunk of her roommate, though it had certainly brought the pair of them closer.

Cherise had looked like she had wanted to ask Vivienne something for several days after the event. Seeming more subdued than her usual trickster self, she finally sat Vivienne down and explained some of her background to her, at least the human-safe version. That she had some hand with the royals from where she came from and was inviting Vivienne for a trip to some exclusive island. It seemed like a dreams, but often, dreams could be too good to be true. Still, Vivienne didn't want to hide or cower or miss life and instead, she took the leap.
