Malan is a fairly typical looking dowutin, only around 7 feet tall as he's relatively young (still in his 70's), though in good shape due to his diet and regular excercise moving crates around and hauling scrap. He doesn't have the chip on his shoulder typical of Dowutin raised in more combative environments. Some mistake his quietness for being dull, and Malan doesn't feel the need to correct most people.

Malan carries no visible weapons, though he does have a blast shield attached to his arm. Someone looking very carefully at his hands might notice either the cybernetic waldo and tool unit he uses for maintenance or the weighted gloves he wears in case someone is feeling suicidal enough to challenge him to a bar room brawl.

He is typically more open to crew members, who he considers a sort of extended family, though he's come to understand that most crewmates do not take the same responsibility. He's very happy speaking with them candidly about whatever book he's read recently, though he typically waits for them to make the first move, particularly with his new ship and crewmates.

On ship, he spends his off-hours reading or exercising. Someone putting effort into asking about him might find out that he was wanted for questioning in regards to a major theft, and that there was a bounty on him from his former captain.
