Nyx

Nyx
Nyx Challand
Nyx, child of Lady Challand, House of Gillron
… only the first one would stick.

Nyx was born to a serving lady to the House of Gillron, the child of a steamy union between lord and servant. In darker Houses he might have simply been cast out, or slain, but instead Lord Gillron had the child trained and prepared, even investing in the services of a rune-smith to work upon the young man's flesh as he grew. Then, as he reached adulthood, he was offered to the Order as a symbol of atonement... 18 years of repentance for an ill advised relationship with a servant.

Nyx will never be a noble, never inherit the prestige his blood offers. But as a member of the Academy he has much to offer. His upbringing, even in secret, has afforded him a chance to learn the intricacies of swordplay and weapon handling. Even at 18 he can hold his own with most master swordsmen and women, and in time he may become one of the preeminent masters of martial weaponry. Yet his background has bought him another boon – one that is written on his skin. Most of his body is tattoed with runes and sigils designed to ward against the magical tricks and powers of monsters and men alike. He got his first when he was four, and now they are a part of him, marking him as different in a way few other things could.

Physically, he is an excellent specimen, ironic proof that nobles breeding outside their little circles is a good thing. He stands over 6 stones tall, with course, thick dirt blond hair most often pulled back in a ponytail. Years of labor and training have left him muscled and capable, with little in the way of fat, and marred only by a handful of scars. His eyes are a deep blue, with a gaze as steely as any weapon he bears, and only the fieriest can cause it to waver.

Yet despite it all, there is an emptiness. A hollowness that comes from things forsaken, things lost, on account of birth station and culture. He hides it well, but it's there, and perhaps some day the things he will fight may find this Achilles heel...
