Ash

The story of Ash is one of loss and destruction.  A tale of warlords and wizards.  A epic of lies and the luck of one who survived against all odds.

Ash began his career as an orphan left to the care of a monastic order.  His family had been run from their farmlands and scattered to the winds.  Or at least that was the story told to him for much of his life.  However, when he was an adult he learned that this tale was a lie and that in fact he was stolen from his family who were then murdered.  The order was given first right to children before their families were put to the sword or flame.  This molded much of his views and shaped the start of his adventuring career.

Vengeance against the order for its passivity and against the warlord who grew in power with every family he culled saw a troubled start for Ash.  He made few friends and exponentially more enemies the small crew he joined harrowed the warlord's troops and undid much of his hard fought progress.  Yet, with each team member who fell Ash survived and learned from their loss.  Eventually, he started to lead the group which sealed their fate for the warlord was forced to take direct action and as a result all of his companions were killed and he was believed to be dead like the others.

Becoming self-exiled was the only option for Ash at that point.  He stayed mobile and aided non-human races which were far from the warlords care.  This afforded him the ability to continue to grow and make strong connections in several racially xenophobic communities.  For, when a people are in dire situations they often become more comfortable to accept help from outsiders.  Doubly so when the missions are viewed as suicidal or lost causes.  Thus Ash became known as the survivor, the outsider, and at times the selfless saint.

However, inevitably when things would become comfortable something would force his hand and he would have to move on.  Sometimes it was as simple as not fitting in to the local culture.  Sometimes it was more familiar and complex due to his vows.  The one that often led to his need to move on was his Vow of Truth.  Many didn't like to hear the truth and more fought against truth being spoken.

This is what's known of Ash...but it is the truth?
