Born to merchant parents, Jacob traveled the world at an early age.  He and his mother often accompanied his father on many sea voyages and land expeditions over the years.

At the age of 17, while he and his father were on a hunt, Jacob fell victim of a bear attack.  The mauling took most of his face.  Doctors were brought in, but there was little hope of survival and Jacob was transported to the local monastery to be cared for through his final days.  It was during one of the nights that he was at the monastery that God would send a miracle to save Jacob from the grip of death in the form of Brother Alfred who took pity on the lad and embraced him to save his life.

Jacob stayed at the monastery with Brother Alfred as his Sire and became a monk in repayment and gratitude for this "miracle".  He often worries that the Beast within him may prevent him from entering the kingdom of Heaven and devotes himself to doing all he can to do good deeds in the name of the Lord.
