Orlin

Name: Orlin
Age: 30
Background: Surface Dwarf

Description: Compared to Humans, like most dwarves, Orlin is short and stocky. Among his own kind, however, he is average height and a bit leaner than most. He has dark hair that he keeps fairly short, and a a bushy beard, which is perhaps the most traditional thing about him. He generally sports dark, leather clothing and a hooded cloak to match.

Personality: Coming from a family of questionable background, Orlin has always believed that status and ceremony are fragile things that can change with the perspective of the general public. Because of this, Orlin tends to be generally laid-back and carefree, never putting much stock in what people think. He takes pride in his work, and takes his job seriously enough, but occasionally has less than conventional ways of dealing with things. That being said, he is a friendly sort, always seeming light-hearted especially compared to many of his kind.

Backstory: Orlin is the only child of the Runescribe clan, formerly known as the House of Stonesmith. Orlin's grandfather Beraht, for reasons that no one has ever been able to confirm, left Orzimmar as a relatively young man, and eventually settled in the predominantly Human village of Redcliffe. There are rumors that Beraht left on business and simply chose never to return, while others say that he was banished from the dwarven capital after some disagreement, but he refuses to answer such questions, even from his own family. Orlin's father Goric, who was still a child when the family relocated to the surface, followed in the family trade of runecrafting, which is the family's main source of income. Goric met another Surface Dwarf in his travels to Denerim, and the two were married within a year. Orlin's mother Atuna moved back to Redcliffe with Goric, and has worked in the kitchens of Castle Redcliffe for years.

While Orlin has a cursory understanding of runecrafting, he had decided not to follow the family business, instead making a living working for the castle like his mother. He started in the kitchens at a young age, but eventually apprenticed under one of the castle scouts and worked his way up to becoming one himself. He is often deployed to patrol the perimeter on the outskirts of town, and has occasionally been called upon to trail suspected criminals to catch them in the act of breaking the law in order to apprehend them.

For this reason, unbeknownst to his employers or his family, Orlin was approached by Dwyn, a local dwarven veteran and smuggler, with an offer to work for him. More out of an amused curiosity than a need for money, Orlin did not require much convincing to sign on. He continues to take odd jobs on the side and provides information from his day job (usually for a fee) to Dwyn and his men.
