Gabriel Saint-Soleil d'Brouhard

Born in the Avoirdupois city of Porteur-du-Soleil, Gabriel began life with high standards to live up to. The D'Brouhards were a large part of the city's reputation for class, education, and culture, nearly everyone in his family having been responsible for some particular piece. Because of this, a lot of pressure was placed upon him and his brother to themselves contribute something to the world. Hugo took to composing particularly well, already having made a grand symphony by the age of 12. Gabriel, however, had a harder time of it, floating between the realms of art, music, sculpture, and many other things, in between chasing skirts and the occasional trousers.

Eventually, his calling would be found, in the most unlikely of ways. One day when he was 17, Gabriel was nearly struck down by a speeding cart that had gone out of control. Left frustrated by the experience, he created a short story in which the driver had somehow been transporting a cart full of gunpowder, and had to find a source of water before the stuff alight. Although the driver himself wasn't named, Gabriel left enough clues to his identity that the individual in question was eventually discovered and beaten by a small mob for his lack of care. Having written the story anonymously, Gabriel sooned realized the power words could have, and resolved to use his ability to make the change he wanted to see in the world. At least, that was the plan.

Unfortunately, living in a city with such a reputation for higher learning, it often turned out that the people Gabriel was writing about were often his biggest fans, since the lion took care to fudge the details. All the while, talk often came to the Rinaldi and their great city -- a grand mix of cultures that mixed together and made such delights that the Avoirdpous simply could not compete. Frustrated with his lack of success in the arena of satire and his own land's failing pride, Gabriel made a decision. Gabriel would travel to the city of those high muzzled, fey-handed foxes, live among them, and some day, find some way to put them in their place the only way he knew how. If all went well, he would compose a piece known throughout the world as something that would now and forever mark the Avoirdpous as the true masters of wit.

If he didn't get himself killed first.
