Physical description: Beyond his glowing eyes, Sylvain's mutation manifests in the occasional static shock from skin-to-skin contact. He has three tattoos aside from the M brand on his forehead- the first is a stylized Grim Reaper holding a lightning bolt that spans his entire back. The second is the third stanza of the Destruction of Sennacherib, inked along his right side. The third is a stylized crucifix around his neck, the only outward symbol of his Catholicism.

Non-Mutant Skills: Befitting his position as resident combat instructor, Sylvain is highly proficient in firearms, pole weapons, and hand-to-hand combat. While he'll never be regarded as a master strategist like Scott Summers is, Sylvain's talents lie in improvising and adapting- turning a losing situation into a winning one by exploiting something other people may not see and adapting quickly.

He speaks several languages as well, making him an able translator when the others are busy.

Powers:

Electrokinesis: Sylvain is an electrokinetic, able to manipulate electromagnetic energy and convert it into electricity, allowing him to manifest completely as electricity, or to 'teleport' in the form of lightning. He can use this ability for any number of offensive and defensive purposes as well. This mutation has an unfortunate side effect: There is no off switch, so he is continually absorbing energy. Fortunately (or unfortunately), he doesn't need to sleep as a result of the effects on his metabolism. The downside is that he tends to drain energy from living things around him if his body is energy-starved. Fortunately, this is a rare occurrence.

Electromagnetic Vision: Sylvain's unique mutation allows him to see the entire electromagnetic spectrum. While he focuses mostly on the bio-electric field (or auras) surrounding living things (and electricity in general), with enough concentration, he can extend his vision further and pinpoint sources of radiation, radio waves, etc, though the longer he maintains it, the likelier he'll wind up with a severe migraine or debilitating vertigo.


History:

Prior to joining the X-Men two years ago, not much is known about Sylvain's history. What is known is that his physical mutation and extended vision were likely present from birth and that he spent most of his childhood in a research lab as a result, though his electrokinetic abilities didn't activate until later (still several years early) due to a botched experiment designed to reverse his eye mutation. Naturally, Sylvain came to harbor an intense hatred for his not-at-all-benign overlords for weaponizing and experimenting on him, and at the earliest opportunity, he struck. Haven's systems picked up an anomalous burst of electromagnetic energy near Paris, and when Scott and Emma, along with Kitty Pryde, went to investigate, they found Sylvain in the rubble of his former home, surrounded by the debris where a research institution used to be. His vengeance complete, he accepted the offer to come to Haven, where he could learn to control his growing power in a safe environment.

Now, to repay them for giving him a home and some real stability, Sylvain accepted the position of combat instructor when it came time to begin accepting students.
