Codename: Sample

Character Name: Mattie Cantwell

Character Alias: "Maskmix" (used on social media)

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Physical Description: Mattie is Caucasian, with long black hair and light brown eyes. She was on the petite side before puberty hit her hard, and she's now 5'9" with a curvy build. Her athletic pursuits are the only thing keeping her from being called "chubby" instead. Her growth spurt and relatively recent attention from boys has made her self-conscious, and she tends to wear heavy, drab clothes that hide her figure, and wears her hair long and loose to hide her face. She also almost always wears headphones, although that's for mutation-related reasons.

Personality: Mattie is shy and withdrawn, but not exactly introverted. She enjoys being around people if she trusts them enough to be open with them, but it takes her time to get to that point. She's usually kind and helpful as long as she's not too stressed out or put off by others' actions. Loves music. She's much more outgoing and confident on social media, but also practices very strict identity separation, so few people know Mattie and "Maskmix" are the same person.

Mutant Powers:
-Sound Recreation: Mattie can conjure up any sound she's heard previously from any point close to herself, ranging from spoken words to entire songs. She can alter things like pitch and volume, to a point, but can't synthesize them out of whole cloth. So if she heard, say, Cyclops ordering the X-Men to roll out, she could reproduce the sound as if he was speaking slowly or on helium. She could also generate other sounds at the same time, such as setting his words to music, or filter it so that it sounded like it was coming from a speaker or through a wall. However, she couldn't create the sound of him putting her in charge of the team unless she could stitch it together from existing words, which would likely sound weird and artificial.

Mattie can't currently make sounds loud enough to injure people or damage objects, so it doesn't have much combat utility apart from distracting or confusing people.

-Music on the Brain: Ever since her mutation manifested, Mattie's mind has devoted an abnormal amount of unconscious thought to sound and composition. She has perfect pitch and a perfect memory of everything she's ever heard. In addition, while she outwardly seems normal enough, people that try to read or manipulate her mind only perceive a strange aural maelstrom of half-formed songs and sounds. She also seems to be developing physical responsiveness to the kind of music she's currently listening to - faster and more coordinated with especially fast music, more sluggish with slow music - though it hasn't yet risen to the level of a "power."

Other Skills: Mattie has a lifelong love of music that's manifested in both composition and dance. Even pre-mutation, she's always especially loved creating remixes that combine songs with sound elements not generally considered musical, or from radically different contexts. She has some skill with computers, especially identity security and video editing, because she's produced a number of videos herself. She always wears masks in her videos as another protection of her identity, hence her nom de plume. She can sing a little, but doesn't play any instruments unless you count turntables.

Weaknesses: Mattie is sensitive to both loud noises and silence, or even the absence of some kind of regular rhythm to time herself by. She's easily knocked for a loop by the former, while she finds the latter disconcerting - so much so that she's gotten permission to wear headphones in class rather than bother other students with her musical abilities. In addition, she's just not a fighter, either by mutation or training, so it'll take some doing before she gets to the point of being able to defend herself against even normal humans with weapons and/or experience at brawling.

Previous History: Mattie comes from an upper-middle-class family, and was somewhat spoiled as the only child of two doting parents. She was a natural performer early in life, but eventually went in a more impersonal direction, with things like costumed dancing and musical composition under a virtual handle. Other than her musical gifts, her life was pretty unremarkable.

Even her mutation manifesting was pretty unremarkable, considering that it's not very destructive or dramatic - she thought she was composing music in her head, turned off her computer, and kept relaxing and thinking about it until her parents visited her room and realized they could hear a musical stream of consciousness with no apparent source. Thankfully her parents didn't hold any particular anti-mutant bigotry, but they did realize she could be in big trouble if others found out about it, and tried to get out ahead of the risk by sending her to Haven. Mattie wasn't exactly thrilled about it, but then she didn't love her current school either and didn't have much of a local social circle, so all considered things could have gone far worse than they did.
