Laughery is a bit of a smaht ass. He is 29 years old, stands 5 feet nine inches tall with a strong athletic build. He has blue eyes.  He shaves his head regularly but at times may sport a scrubbly goatee. The engine room is HOT. His uniform is usually stained with sweat. He is loyal and friendly enough, in a ball-busting sort of way, that his superiors rarely find amusing.

Mike is from Scituate Massachusetts, a town on the shore, south of Boston.
 His parents were Irish immigrants. Many Irish with a fishing background settled in Scituate. His father is a Fisherman who has worked hard to obtain his own ship Mike grew up at sea helping his father, especially in the summer, when not in school. The technology of the steamships fascinated him, so he joined the Navy to learn more about it. The docks around the harbor could be a very rough place. His father taught him boxing so he could defend himself.
