Catelyn Harlaw

Appearance: Catelyn Harlaw has matured into a lithe, blonde beauty now in her late teens. Standing 5'6" tall, she is not particularly imposing, nor is she so small to be looked upon as weaker. While slender, she has well-toned, sinewy muscles and so weighs in around 120 lb. While light-skinned, she is not truly pale, and she spends enough time outside for her skin to regularly be a lightly bronzed. Her true blonde, though far from Targaryan platinum blonde, hair frames a disarming smile and expressive, alluring eyes.

Catelyn dresses to suit her needs, not being so locked in to any particular style. When galavanting about, she wears comfortable traveling garb that provides good freedom of movement. She has a particular set of prayer robes she wears to the sept and that she has even worn while walking into the bay to pray to the Drowned God on one particular opportunity. When about the castle or with other nobles, she wears high-end courtiers' outfits or low-end nobles' outfits. Regardless of the particular outfit, she seems at ease.

History: Catelyn, known to her friends as "Cat" and more broadly by reputation as "The Sea Cat" was born to Rodrik "The Reader" Harlaw 18 years ago, after he already had two sons. As customary, she was dedicated to the Drowned God as a baby, and she grew up an Iron Islander. She was nine during the Greyjoy Rebellion, and crewed on a ship, already known for swinging about the rigging and walking along the yards for years. During the rebellion she got her first kill fighting onboard her ship. Between her first kill at such a young age and her cat-like dexterity she quickly developed a reputation and become known as "The Sea Cat."

However, the rebellion did not go as hoped. As House Harlaw was one of the most powerful in the Iron Islands, it was determined they should give up a child hostage just like the Greyjoys. However, Catelyn's two brothers were slain in the war, leaving only her. Thus at the age of nine she was sent off to live as a ward of House Sylvayn, under the eye of Devon Sylvayn.

It was rough at first. For Cat, it meant not just the loss of her family, but of the sea and her whole way of life. Meanwhile, the Sylvayns had to deal with the untamed child that she was at the time. Fortunately for Cat, and unfortunately for Alicent Sylvayn, Sharra Sylvayn was the same age and quite adventuresome as well. As Devon Sylvayn never put a stop to it, Cat got into plenty of little adventures, no few of them with Sharra. She was also able to practice with her high-quality Braavosi blade and castle-forged left-handed dagger, both of which had been given to her by her father as spoils for which the ship she was on had paid the iron price. Meanwhile Cat adapted to differences in the Veil. She found a favorite spot up on the castle rooftop where she could use her far-eyes and longingly watch ships on the bay on clear days. She attended the sept and began worshipping the Seven without giving up on worshipping the Drowned God. She also found her own house's words, "Reap the dawn," merged well with House Sylvayn's, "Honor above all," with her remaining understanding of the iron price combined with her penchant for honesty and honor. Fortunately for both Alicent and Cat, Cat learned to enjoy dressing up for visitors when the chance permitted.

As she got a little older, the reputation she already had as "the Sea Cat" grew. Some of that was due to her blossoming into a pretty young woman, drawing the attention of boys. More of it was due to a few run-ins. Three years ago she was down in town when three local boys, two of the butcher's boys and one of the thatcher's boys, started hassling her and a local farm girl who just happened to be around the same corner at the same time. Hormones and machismo were running too strong. Cat ended up beating them with a stick, leaving a small scar on the elder butcher's son's left cheek. Since then the butcher hasn't been fond of her, but she's always welcome at the girl's farm. Two years ago she was running late from town with some castle servants, and it was getting dark. A pair of highwaymen accosted them. Cat slew one and wounded the other badly enough that the Sylvayns were able to catch him, identify him, and bring him to justice. "The Sea Cat" became known as the untamed and dangerous beauty from the Iron Islands. Who might be able to tame someone as wild as her to claim such a pretty bride?

Her reputation has already factored into a few relationships with similarly-aged noble children and some not-so-noble. Clarice Melcom, from Old Anchor, and Cat get along well due to their common spirit. Whenever either family visits the other, the two have a marvelous time together. Meanwhile, Ella Royce, from Runestone has decided Cat is is a threat to her getting the right husband, while Cat doesn't get why Ella always seems to dislike her.

And now that Devon Sylvayn has passed, Vandrose Sylvayn will be the one to have to deal with her and figure out what to do about marrying her off.
