Gaelin grew up in a small Moon Elf community in the wood of the Sword Coast.  She has 5 siblings and a large extended family.  She never really fit in with the elven community, more interested in books and structure than your typical elf.  After encountering a traveling monk, the young elf decided that was her calling and ceaselessly badgered her parents until they agreed to send her to a local monastery for studies.  She excelled at the training, but didn't fit in well with the monks either.  Her natural curiosity and love of conversation was difficult for the sensai, and he finally encouraged her to take up the life of a traveling monk.
