Drake Morris

Name: Drake Morris

Age: 20

Year: Sophomore, but first year at Smithdale

Major: Music (switch from History)

Groups or Sports: Soccer, Reel Life (student film society), Makers Collective, Pride Alliance, Baking Club, Smithdale Jam (guitar club)

Occupation: Music lessons, stray gigs and busking, trying to find a good band

Personality: Drake is easygoing and friendly, able to hang with a wide range of people, trying to enjoy people as they are instead of judging.  With an easy smile and a quick laugh he can put most people at ease.  He’s a great listener, often prompting with questions for people to expand upon, so much so that sometimes unless he is purposely drawn out the conversation can end with the other person having told him much but finding out little about him.  He’s loyal, and values that same trait in others.  He can make errors in judgement when emotions or passions are high, but he tries to do the right thing.  He watches and takes note of what other people do, how they act and treat others – being terrible to others then trying to turn on the charm with him won’t go over well.  While slow to truly anger, he can be blunt and biting if displeased, and if someone does manage to earn his enmity, it is very hard to regain his trust.

Drake likes to always be doing something. Reading, working on things for school, playing music, working out, going to concerts, even chores.  If something needs doing, he’ll try to do it, and if doing something mundane or routine like washing dishes or exercising he can zen out, letting his body carry on while he thinks of other things.  For things that require attention, even sedate activities like cuddling on a couch or watching a movie he is usually all-in, unless especially troubled by something else.

He’s a “Goody Two Shoes” in the sense that he doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs.  He doesn’t care for the smell of cigarettes, but overall doesn’t mind if others drink or smoke – he’s not a crusader, he’s just made a personal choice, partly driven by knowing of alcoholics and addicts in the family and not wanting to go down that path himself.

Description: Drake is six feet tall, well built and fit from running, general exercise and weightlifting but is no bodybuilder.  He has a deep “radio” voice, velvet up front with gravel behind that can carry far and responds well to microphones. While no Baryshnikov or Jet Li, he moves with the ease of someone comfortable with their body and doesn’t embarrass himself on the dance floor even if he won’t win a trophy. He has blue eyes, with brown hair, generally kept shortish but he can sometimes go quite a while between haircuts. Sometimes some facial scruff especially on weekends or when he has no particular plans and doesn’t feel like shaving. On his left hand and forearm he has a series of small faded scars.

For attire, when casual he’s typically in something like t-shirts, jeans and sneakers.   When at school he of course stays in uniform when needed but tries to find and skirt the edges of uniform policy where he can. Dislikes having to wear a tie on game days. On stage he wears tighter t-shirts to better show off his arms, shoulders and torso in general.  If who he’s playing with has a particular look or if he’s going to a club he’ll try to piece together something appropriate, and with enough advance notice will dive through some thrift stores for options.

Bio: Overall Drake had a good childhood.  His parents divorced when he was young, leaving him and his brother to be raised by their mother alone.  They had enough, if not a lot. He was a good student, his inclusive attitudes and garage-band interests weaving him into knowing some of 'the wrong crowd' without ever getting too deeply involved himself.

At first out of high school he attended college in-state in North Carolina under studying History, but he has made some changes in what he wanted and where he thought he wanted and where to take his life - he decided that rather than study one thing and be passionate about another, if he was going to be in college why not study his passion? The new Smithdale College interested him, and once they had an opening on the soccer team and were willing to give him an athletic scholarship he headed north with a new major in Music and at least some transferring credits.

Aside from his scholarship covering the basics of tuition and subsistence, he has some variable income from recently inherited investments and tries to make a little extra on the side when he can offering lessons and playing when and where he can. He can play quite a bit by ear and has an excellent memory for pieces he’s played before, traits that have helped him immensely when filling in for others.  Most conversant with piano, guitar and bass, with a good but not world-class singing voice. He’s a good amateur handyman and may end up working maintenance for the school down the road if money gets tighter.  Balancing everything at college can be tricky, but the 20’s are forgiving for sleep deprivation.
