Alys Polarel

Alys is a 5'5", 30 year old wood Elf with a light copper complexion and dry, charcoal hair that rests at her shoulders, through which her pointed ears betray her Elvish heritage. Her earthy brown eyes usually convey her burgeoning curiosity, as anything not commonly seen in the Ten Towns is often a new sight for her. In fact, her attention is often drawn to colorful fabrics and scenes, as a stark contrast to the gray, snowy plains from which she hails.

Having lived a rather isolated childhood, Alys often fumbles her way through social situations, and doesn't quite have the idea of etiquette down. Her gait is an odd mix between the graceful stroll most wood Elves sport and the slightly hunched over, brisk walk of someone used to pushing their way through the snow in heavy boots. Alys is not quick to trust or make friends, but once she does, she is fiercely loyal, only being used to the strong, familial ties she held not so long ago.

Alys is the youngest member of whatever remains of the Polarel family, a small band of nomadic Elves who served as escorts for caravans traveling along the frigid Ten Trail. The Polarel family was almost entirely composed of druids and rangers, and they were very proud of their work: as soon as a Polarel child could wield a bow or channel magic, they were inducted into the family business. It was a grueling life, but oftentimes it was the only life a Polarel knew. They stayed in towns long enough to recuperate and find new jobs, with little to no downtime. Through the Polarel had little physical strength to speak of, they made up for this with endurance, cunning, and magical prowess.

Alys lived this way until she was about 20, at which point tragedy struck. Whilst doing a routine run from Icewind Dale, a storm appeared on the horizon. As the family trudged onward, the storm grew in power until the group couldn't see two feet in front of their eyes, and couldn't hear over the deafening roar of the wind. In the end, a force hidden from sight by the brutal snow attacked the caravan, separating the family and completely destroying the carriages they were protecting. The blizzard lasted for a day and a night, by which point Alys had long since lost track of her kin. Thus, Alys was doomed to wander the frozen wasteland, until being rescued by members of the Bronzewood Lodge.

Alys lingered in Diamond Lake for ten years, surviving off the coin she can make from doing odd jobs with the Bronzewood Lodge. To this day, she hasn't the slightest idea what became of her family, and suffers a measure of survivor's remorse as a result. She's made a home in Diamond Lake, but the air here reeks of foul chemicals, and Alys is just itching for an excuse to leave the murky waters of this town behind.
