Barnabas Steel stands about 4'4" tall with a stocky frame, and a blunt face like the side of an axe. He has a reddish brown flowing beard nearly down to the middle of his chest, and long hair that falls to just below his shoulder. He has a bulbous nose, brown eyes, and a lantern jaw.

He wears unusual leather armor that has small plates of various types of materials that are strung together in parallel rows using fine cord. He carries a steel shield, a greataxe, a hunting dagger, a club, and a crossbow to complete his arsenal along with a backpack with his other travel needs.
