Soren

Name: Soren

Occupation: Bounty Hunter

Actual Age/Apparent Age: 35

Gender: Male

Sexuality: hetero

Race/Species: Shondu - an alien race very similar to humans, other than minor ability variations; Soren’s being the ability to manipulate energy

Appearance: Soren stands with a loose confidence that one might easily mistake as relaxed. Broad shoulders lead into a lean form, though such a build did nothing to hide his strength. His well toned muscles aren’t bulky, allowing him speed as well as a flexibility that opens the way for a variety of fighting styles.

When one’s gaze reaches his face, they will find stoic features that seem almost like a mask. By many definitions it is, allowing him to put aside what he may feel about a job in favor of getting it done.

Dark eyes peer out from under longish, messy waves, a shadow of facial hair nearly hiding his mouth. Only those who have taken the time to get to know him can truly read his features, and are aware that the key lies in his eyes.

Personality: Having grown up poor, Soren tends towards a serious nature. This, combined with how hard it might be to read him, can make him come off as aloof or harsh when really he doesn’t do it intentionally. While he understands this, quite often Soren uses it to his benefit, allowing the shroud of indifference to mask himself, making others think he is much fiercer than what meets the eye.

However, Soren tends to surround himself with people that can see through the mask, and take the time to get to know him despite his outer image. Those that can draw reactions out of him seem few and far between, leaving him with only a handful that truly know him, a fact he prefers.

His tactical mind gained him the place in life he is at now, working with a mercenary team sent out most often on bounty hunts, allowing him to use his abilities to think outside the box, especially when odds seem against them. While he might be a natural-born leader, Soren is no stranger to listening to his team and gathering ideas from them as well, often using their strengths to get them into, or out of - where they need to go…even if it might be unwilling or unknowing on the part of the team member he’s using.

Abilities/Skills:
Tactics - Soren has the ability to see situations unfold before they do from reading his opponent, and understanding what they might do, especially in reaction to his own moves.

Manipulating energy - Soren can “shape” raw energy, using it to create what he might need. While he cannot create it on his own, he has become adept at shaping it to fit his needs, from plasma rounds for his team’s weapons to handheld projectiles just stable enough to store in special compartments carried by each man, made specifically to hold the projectiles until needed, allowing them a ready source of grenade-like objects.

Handyman - along with being able to read opponents and situations, Soren is excellent at fixing things, or at least understanding how many objects work. Or can work.

History: Soren grew up poor, living in the slums where he had to learn how to fend for himself and his family. As such, he learned how to be quick and smart, to understand how people and objects worked, and more importantly, how to make them work for him. He learned that emotions only got people in trouble, and learned to use them to get what he needed, either by showing what was necessary to score food for the day or to encourage them out of others to accomplish something similar.

The life he lived was tiresome, at the very least, wearing away at Soren until he found himself a mere shadow of who he once thought himself to be. It wasn’t until a group came into his neighborhood offering a better life filled with adventure and meaning, and money, causing the young Soren to join them, intending to send money home as necessary, and hopefully be able to pull them all out of the life they lived.

It wasn’t until he got to their base that he realized the error of this thinking, that maybe someone else might be able to play on his emotions and deep seated needs better than he did to others. Soren found himself in a life of near servitude, spending his time risking his life for barely enough to live on, and spending more time retrieving the goods than actually basking in any sale of them.

It took him a while, but eventually what he spent his time saving was enough that he felt he could strike out on his own away from the Command. He knew only one other person knew his plan, the one partner he actually liked working with and who shared a similar desire to escape as well.

However, before they could actually make good on their plan, the pair got sent on another mission. A planet held a subset of the natural population thought to have the ability to change forms into something much more fierce, something the Command figured could be useful for its warriors. As such, and the fact that the planet was fairly well unknown, Soren and Ka’tan found themselves sent on a scouting mission, told to return with at least one of these sub-set creatures, or die trying.
