Faye Adra-Balris

Name: Faye Adra-Balris
Alt: Mockingly called "The Autumn Princess" by the other noble houses and people in power, as they like to remind her she had risen to power when it's basically too late to make a difference.

Occupation: Politician, heir to the Balris Estate

Actual Age/Apparent Age: 110 (looks to be in her late twenties)

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Hetero

Race/Species: Half-Elf

Appearance: Despite her half-elven heritage, Faye holds but a bare whisper of the famed, ethereal beauty on which full-blooded elven women pride themselves in. Though her face is slender and her skin a bit pale, her hair never became streaks of moonlight or sunlight, woven into a crown on her head. Instead, Faye inherited the mousy brown color from her human mother, unimpressive and hardly fit to fall around a pair of sharp-tipped elven ears poking through it. Her eyes are not far behind, a pale silvery gray color, they mainly make her look like a spirit possessing a mortal vessel, rather than hinting at any sort of life or vibrance of either side of her family, (as she had been so "lovingly" reminded by her distant father, when she was but a child.)

Lithe and turned soft by the endless hours she had spent studying under dozens upon dozens of tutors, Faye is not overly pleased with the neglect her physical prowess had to suffer, knowing that she was capable of far more than she is now, if only she managed to talk her stepmother into throwing in a fencing class among her studies here and there. But, as it stands right now, the most Faye got out of any sort of physical strain were her daily walks, to the utter dismay of her stepmother, who is unhappy that her stepdaughter is taking such unnecessary risks. Still, Faye insists, and spends at least an hour a day simply walking around the woods surrounding her family's sizable estate, and has grown to know the winding, invisible pathways like the back of her hand, making up for her lack of strength, by substituting it with speed, agility, and cunning.

At home and during formal occasions, she can usually be found wearing intricate gowns, fit an elven lady of wealth and power, and she wears them as if she was born in them. But her preferred method of dress, especially when her woodland explorations are involved, would always be a tunic, a leather jerkin, thighs, and high riding boots, which she unapologetically keeps stored away where her stepmother cannot find them and make them mysteriously get washed in bleach.

Personality: Born to poverty and strife, Faye had never truly obtained that distant sense of entitlement, from which many a noble-born seem to suffer with. Humble and compassionate most of the time, she holds a deeper understanding of how things truly are, simply because she is able to look at them from more than one perspective.

Though she had a relatively unhappy childhood, until her stepmother changed it for the better, Faye still holds a strange streak of optimism in everything she does, that spark of hope only grew over the years, until it became a form of conviction that not only would she able to fulfill her stepmother's wishes, and become the new Lady of the Balris estate, but also put her foot in the door when it came to peace negotiations with the Mountain folk.

She still lacks the confidence needed to voice her convictions with any sort of impact, but Faye tries. Relentlessly and blind to the futility of it, she tries so hard to make the people see that all the non-stop fighting brings naught but grief and misery to both the Valley and Mountain folk alike. And bit by bit, she finds some strength in her voice. More and more sense in her words, and more and more determination to make herself understood among the sea of those content with sending men and women to die in a senseless war.

Abilities/Skills:

Negotiator - it takes a long time for Faye to raise her voice an be heard. Even more so to be understood, but when one actually sees past the underwhelming visage of the supposed "Heir to the Balris Estate", one might find a truly scholastic mind. Pedantic, but not so stuck in rules and history to not know when to apply a different method to swaying opinions on her side, Faye is a surprisingly capable negotiator, able to pinpoint the core of the matter and suggest theoretically sound solutions. Oftentimes, though, her unconventional suggestions do not sit well with those more stuck in tradition and prejudice, which had earned her the falsely flattering nickname of "The Autumn Princess" - "One who came too late, and into not enough power to make a difference".

Cunning - what Faye lacks in strength and physical prowess, she makes up in with the ability to assess the situation, and oftentimes find her way out of trouble, by simply applying logic and quick thinking. This is partly something she was born with, but it had only been developed to this point by Faye's understanding of how the world works. Life was not fair, and fate was not obligated to throw good things your way. So, if an opportunity strikes, one must use it, to preserve oneself and those around them.

History: Born as an illegitimate child to the Lord of the Balris Estate and a common human woman, prior to the Lord's arranged marriage to his now-wife, Faye spent her earliest years being hidden from detection by the noble family, per her father's wishes to upkeep appearances and reputation. But when a sudden attack from what was assumed a Mountain raiding party rid her mother of her life, Faye was shipped off to her father's still-heirless family.

At first, her stepmother did not really accept her, once she had learned the truth of how Faye came to be, but with her father being mostly absent out of their lives, the elven noblewoman took pity on the child and took her under her wing. As years passed, and the Lord husband slowly became more and more detached from them, the two formed a connection as tight as any mother-daughter bond might get, the elven woman even formally introducing Faye as her daughter, while helping her to grow into a learned, intelligent young woman, hoping that one day, Faye would inherit her father's estate and situate them both, should it come to pass that the Lord died at the front.

Terrified of the burden set on her young shoulders, but determined to secure their lives at the Estate, Faye poured herself into studying everything from history, to politics, and had eventually expressed a desire to join the Valley Senate, holding a deeply rooted belief that, one day, she might make a difference in the world.

Though not exactly welcomed among them, Faye's faith never faltered, even when the worst of news came - of Lord Balris passing in battle, leaving her and her stepmother on uncertain grounds. Only recently being named the Lady Successor to the Estate, Faye is still trying to find her ground, and establish the Estate as a force standing toe to toe with the greatest noble houses of the Valley, even with all the rumors circling that she might not get to do so for much longer, since there are forces at work which want her out of the picture, so the Balris Estate might be heirless once more, and used for other purposes.
