Jacob Caan

Name: Jacob Caan

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Hetero, but if he treats me nice I might let Chris Pine do me.  Dude’s beautiful.

Occupation: Songwriter/producer. Everyone in LA is a 'slash' something.

Appearance: Five ten, dark hair, brown eyes, not quite hazel but with little flecks of gold. Generally casually confident in both manner and movement. Trim, athletic build with definition but not a Venice bodybuilder. (Yeah of course I work out, I live in LA; your gym membership comes on the back of your driver’s license.   Plus some Jeet Kune Do, but should probably do more.)

Personality:

How do you describe your own personality without sounding like a loser or arrogant?  I can usually sound like a jerk anyways, so no harm done I guess.  I’ve been told I can come off a bit flippant and abrasive sometimes, but hey, life is short.  Maybe it’s just a defense mechanism to protect my sensitive tortured artist soul.  Yeah there’s a real heart of gold in here somewhere past the scars.  I’m trying to enjoy life, deal with past problems and mistakes – thankfully I’ve got roadies for some of that baggage – and reinvent myself for the next stage of life.  If I take a liking to you, I’ll help you move the world.  If I don’t like you, not going to waste any more time than I have to.  Like I said, life is too short. I also sometimes swear just a little bit.  I can turn it off when called for.  Usually.

(While he can sometimes come across as arrogant, he loves people and enjoys meeting new ones, hearing their stories, finding out what they like. He likes to be happy and doesn't want to be happy alone. In most cases he's a great example of the saying 'a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet'. Except the jerks. Some strangers are jerks you haven't met yet. But move on from them.)

Background:

Born in Michigan, Jacob joined a band straight out of high school.  It was a lousy band overall, but it helped him recognize his own talent and he met Cassandra Alvarez.  They ended up as lovers and songwriting partners and left to form their own band CAIRO.

CAIRO had a minor hit with “Phoenix Flight”, with its chorus of:
It’s dangerous playing with matches
But please set me on fire tonight
And burn me down baby to ashes
Then take me on a phoenix flight
Yeah take me on a phoenix flight

Cassandra overdosed and died before the band could fully take off, and Jacob spiraled into depression and self-destructive behavior.  He came out, went through rehab, and put out a solo album, CAAN which did not do well commercially but was popular with other musicians and critics.  That led him to work as a songwriter and producer, moving to LA full time where he has built up a new career over the past few years. Aside from his work on songs for others he sometimes works on material for himself and toys around with the idea of doing a small-label or online release and potential tour if the demand is there but mostly he's happy working with his love, music, and getting to be paid for it.

Hobbies/Interests:

Music is a big part of Jacob's life, and he not only enjoys his own creative process but he also likes hearing others. Doing some other task he'll often be listening to something while doing it, and goes to concerts often, both big names and checking out local talent. While he plays a number of instruments he is primarily a guitarist and has a number he has collected. While typically he'll listen to music digitally for the convenience he also collects vinyl records, a fan of whole albums not just singles, enjoying the liner notes, cover art and the whole creative process that went into every aspect of the release.

He's into staying fit but doesn't obsess about it (usually), hitting the gym (he's ended up with a couple different memberships in places around the area for convenience), swimming, or exploring other active pastimes like surfing or rock climbing. He's usually pretty up for trying new things and going new places.

Jacob dabbles in a variety of things (like surfing and rock climbing, above), cooking, history (admittedly a lead-in from history of music and going into origins of various songs and branching out from there), photography, and more. At any given time he has a variety of projects going in various stages of completion that he'll eventually circle back around to as the mood or inspiration strikes. If you want someone to try something new with he's probably your guy.

(Not that he's likely to wear that in LA...)
