Sgt Gabrielle Lavigne

Born on 1/11/1967 to mother Margeurite  and father Shaun Lavigne in Belgentier, France. She is the middle child of three, Pierre, her older brother and Jeanette, her younger sister. Her father was a party organizer for the LREM and middle management at the local cannery, and as such, politics and patriotism played a huge part in her upbringing. When she turned eighteen in 1985 she enlisted in the Army.

She was eventually assigned to the 35th Infantry Regiment. She exceled as an infantrywoman, and having the right frame of loyalty, her superiors recommended her for Paratrooper training in 1991. She was assigned to the 13th Parachute Dragoon Regiment (13e RDP). She was assigned to many special operations missions in West Africa and the Middle East during the calm before the storm forming in Europe.

In 1997, her unit was deployed to Germany as part of France's NATO commitment. She participated as part of the Long Distance Strategic Recon operations taking place behind Soviet lines, determining high value targets for Aviation and Artillery assets. She was decorated for bravery  when she was deployed for long term surveillance of Soviet troop movements from the Baltic States into Poland in 1998. In the winter of 98-99, she received NBC training for directing tactical nuclear strikes. Information provided by her was used in successfully destroying a Soviet Mechanized Regiment by directing an American F-111 equipped with a tactical nuke. This changed her outlook, as the fireball also consumed a small Polish hamlet in the strike. She has been haunted by night terrors since this time.

In 1999, when the coup in France called for a pullback of French Forces deployed in Eastern and Central Europe, Gabrielle with the rest of her unit, was left stranded behind enemy lines and in no position to extract itself. Her unit came under the control of NATO forces in the area and continued providing behind the lines intelligence for the remainder of the year.

This has taken both a physical and mental toll on Gabrielle. She has become cynical and viscous when angered. She still believes fully that the war can be won, and she and her unit continued operating long after they should have broken. Her once fit figure is now gaunt, from a near starvation diet. Her face is sullen, and she her once pretty eyes now have dark circles around them.

She was directing artillery strikes in support of the 2000 offensive near Kalisz when the line collapsed. Her unit was discovered and butchered in a running battle with advanced Soviet elements. It was the unit that saved her life at the last moment as they pulled out of Kalisz.
