Hetty managed to half-accidentally rescue this young black-headed gull from a couple of jaegers trying to eat the fledgling alive earlier in the month. Having been nursed back to health on ends of crackers and sardines, she now considers Hetty to be the Best Thing and will often follow her about in the hopes food might happen. She's less enamoured of other humans, but has lost the wild-bird fear to the extent that her bad moods can present something of an aerial hazard.

Discouraged from naming something that belonged to the sea and would likely die, it took Hetty a while to notice that the gull responded to "that pest" as though alerted by her name; between that and her uncle's attempts not to swear with her around the seagull is now definitely called Pestilence! -or just Pest for short.
