| Personality: | Mei is a contradiction. Outwardly she portrays the submissive Celestial woman, but inwardly she is anything but. Mei is friendly in a cautious way and behaves properly with good manners but has a fiery temper she tries to hide. She is enjoying her freedom and will not let anyone ever take that from her again. Because of past abuse and the usual discrimination her race faces in the west; she is slow to trust others. Mei is brilliant and knows much of Eastern medicine and herb-lore. |

| About Your character: | Mei-Ying grew up in rural China. Her mother and father had great plans to marry her to a wealthy man and, in doing so, bound her feet. The process was both long and painful. Mei has trouble walking to this day. Her parents died of a fever when she was young, and she went to live with her aunt and uncle, who ran an herb shop. She learned about herbs and their use in medicines and was able to help run the shop. Times grew tough, and her Uncle was forced to sell young Mei-Ying to cover some sizable debts. The attractive young girl became a commodity. |
She was eventually sold to a brothel in San Francisco, where she was forced to work as a whore. The harsh conditions forced the rather naive woman to face a harsh reality very quickly. She had to speak English, learning it on her own, provide pleasure to the customers, who were often perverted individuals, and comport herself as a servant or else she was punished. Her chance at escape came one night when she killed the brothel owner, who had decided to partake of her charms, with a knife... stabbing him multiple times and with a viciousness that would surprise even herself.
An Englishman helped her escape the city and avoid the various bounty hunters sent to retrieve her. She has followed him across the west and has recently arrived at Sweetwater.|
