Background:
Born on Earth in Austin, Texas. Both father {Athen} and mother {Jennifer} are career Officers. Athen graduating Flight Academy fast tracked in to officer’s training corp, Athen joined the Colonial Marines.

His first four years included stints on duty on Earth at Mars and Mercury. He also won a spot at the Miramar Space Fighter Training School. It was at this time that he met embedded Reporter Rachel DuMont a European Federation citizen and ZNN Corespondent. They ended up in some pretty dicey situations when Athen's unit was deployed to put down a belter insurgency and extract UCW citizens threatened. Athen and Rachel ended up getting involved initial arguing all the time but it developed into a deep relationship of affection. They met again on and off over his terms of service remaining close friends and lovers but both realize their careers keep them apart.

The second four years found himself in a much different position, he was assigned to the UWC Hades an Olympus Class Corvette. Initially he found himself as commanding the Star Fury fighters that were assigned to the Hades but after two years the Captain of the Hades assigned him as the Marine liaison officer to the Colonial Marshals. The Hades had begun operating with the UWC Hood a Colonial Marshal vessel and Commander Vladosky did not want the “witch hunters” on his ship any more than they needed to be.

That is when he received a message from ZNN that Rachel was MIA on an investigation story. Athen has never heard more from Rachel or ZNN.
All his attempts to find out more info have been rejected… and the ZNN corp official claim no message of her being MIA ever came from them.
It made Athen furious for a long time, but space is a big place to look for one person.  Still he keeps looking, but its seems corporate resources are being used to confound his search.

The final four years found his career intertwined with the Marshals and though he was in the Marines he was assigned more and more to liaison with the Marshals finally transferring to the Hood permanently and taking over his duties from that vessel. While on detached service to the Marshals he saw many more “dark” things even participating in classified operations that he could not detail in his reports back to the Hades. Finally the Hood rotated back home and Captain Ralph recommended him to the Marshals because of his time already served and knowledge that he had seen firsthand.

That is when he met Katherine Killian aka. ‘Killer Kate’.  She was a tough as nails, bitter, hard core, even HARDER drinking Marine, part of a contingent of marines assigned to the corp ship he was sent on to answer a mayday from a prison penal colony.

It went bad.  REALLY BAD.  Only Kate, Athen and a handful of other escaped a infestation of the colony unclassified alien vermin!  The report was sealed by the corporate owners of the penal colony… as Athen and Killer Kate’s actions ultimately destroyed the colony leaving a smoking HOLE and no evidence of the ‘Vermin threat’.

Athen and Kate had become serious lovers in that life or death situation.

But both were punished for the destruction they had caused.  Athen was assigned to his current backwater locale and Kate was shipped out on her next deployment.  That was two years ago and Athen has been lead to believe that Kate was killed in her last deployment.  He thinks there may be lies involved or perhaps corporate revenge but he is uncertain.  He morns Kate’s loss, but tries to hang on to the belief that unless they show him a body… she’s not dead.  Though she has never failed to write or transmit some message to him for so long before.
