Margaret Buxton

Name: Margaret Buxton

Age: 24

Character Description: Margaret Buxton’s beauty is notable throughout the Ton. With chestnut locks and sea blue eyes, she is striking in any room she walks into. Even more notable than her beauty is her sharp tongue and wit, which has gotten her into trouble on more than one occasion. She would be one of the most desirable women in London High Society, but with her vivacious personality comes many-a-scandal. Margaret is often dressed in the latest fashions, yet never seems to mind if her hair seems like it’s come freshly out of a tussle. Needless to say, she can be a handful for her eldest brother, Lord Benjamin Buxton, and a bad influence on her virtuous younger sister, Fiona.

Skills/Accomplishments: Piano, dancing, good at shooting
Flaws/Shortcomings: Embroidery, bad singer, party-girl

Background: Growing up between a responsible elder brother like Benjamin and an angelic younger sister like Fiona. Margaret reconciled that she would never be Father’s or Mother’s favorite. Her inclination towards mischief always landed her with mud on her hems and a scolding in her ears. When the Buxton children’s father, the former Lord Buxton, tragically died in a horse riding accident two years ago, Benjamin insisted that presenting Margaret to society would be the good not only for the family to make an advantageous match, but also in an attempt to hopefully tame his dear sister “Maggie.” Or at least that is how Margaret felt every time her brother scolded her for adding some life to the rather dull tea times and picnics.

Despite her good breeding, Margaret quickly became the party-girl of the season. The first to dance at any ball, and the last to leave the floor. She had even encouraged poor, shy Fanny Winston to enjoy far too much wine at the Winston’s ball, causing young Fanny to vomit onto Lord Buxton’s shoes. However, hope seemed to rise for Margaret Buxton (well, hope for Benjamin really) as she attracted the attention of the esteemed Lord Thomas Ashton. Words such as love and engagement were even tossed around in the gossip surrounding Lord Ashton and Miss Buxton. However, the fun, flirtatious gossip quickly turned to scandal as rumor of Miss Buxton being found unchaperoned in Lord Ashton’s garden with none other than his dearest friend, Duke Frederick Sainsbury.

The London Season ended with shock and tears over the ending of Miss Buxton and Lord Ashton’s presumed engagement. Not surprisingly but still mysteriously, Margaret was whisked away by an elderly aunt to spend the year abroad and traveling through Europe. Some say it was in hopes that Margaret would find a match abroad, others have more ~titillating~ notions.
