Salma ex Miscellanea

Description
A short, dark woman wearing the dark desert robes of a Tuareg woman. Her deep brown eyes convey a glint of intelligence and kindness. She leans on a stick that was once a small tree, its roots at the top but it is otherwise unadorned. She has an easy smile and a humble demeanor, if it weren't for her gift she would probably seem quite likable though her gift doesn't seem to affect those aligned to the Magic Realm. She is always happy to discuss one of her many magical interests or anything she thinks may be even tangentially related.

History
Born to a small tribe of Tuareg she learned the ways of her desert people and seemed to pick up language quite easily. When she was about five summers old her tribe was attacked by slavers, many of the men killed but the women and children sold to masters on the coast. Her master lived in Tunis. He was relatively fair but her gift always made him and his family uneasy and she was a relatively frequent scapegoat, perceived as lazy and untrustworthy. When a Greek traveller offered to buy her he sold her readily.

Her Parens, Kalikrax filii Pralicus as he informed her on the boat as they were leaving Tunis, seemed a strange and wealthy man. He told her she was no longer a slave but she would be his apprentice. They travelled to Greece making stops and changing boats in a number of ports, Alexandria, Acre, Rhodes, Athens, until finally reaching Thessaloniki where they traveled by land to Erebos. Kalikrax opened her arts before anyone outside the covenant knew of her existence and once that was done and his claim upon her as his apprentice was solidified he sent word to the Archon and the Treasury Council informing them that he had taken an apprentice and refused to surrender her to them to be auctioned off at the next Tribunal. For this he received two shards but being a powerful and well liked magus he was chosen to be ostracized at that Tribunal and he found it easy to have these shards destroyed before the next one. He was a kind and more than fair master, sometimes training her for two seasons in a year and sometimes hiring skilled teachers for more mundane pursuits such as languages and academic knowledges. When her gauntlet came he informed her of the purpose of his choosing her as his apprentice, she would be one of the first in his long term goal of Hermetic colonization of Egypt and the Berber lands and the creation of a new tribunal. Of course she had the option to choose otherwise. Trained outside of the normal period for Theban magi she would have been a metoikos after gauntlet in Thebes, at least until the following Tribunal, and the thought of returning to Africa was enticing.
