Lukas Kohl

Lukas Kohl cuts an unassuming figure.  He stands at approximately 5'10" and is of moderate weight.  He is lean rather than overly muscular.  A life of hard work and borderline poverty have combined to give him a functional physique - he is fitter and stronger than he looks but he has never had the chance to enjoy the excesses of life, having an austere diet of basic subsistence like most of the peasants in the Empire.  His hair is jet black and long and he wears a full beard that gives him the look of a crow that flits about the trees.  Indeed, his clothes are old and tattered, baked in the ash of his work and his skin is covered in years of black soot, ash and smoke resting upon him.  He had no need for the expensive bath houses in Untergard but now he has shed his past life, he is conscious of how he looks to others.

He thinks he has reached his 30th year but he can't be to sure, there's not much point counting the seasons when there is no-one to celebrate it with.  He was raised by his father, a charcoal burner like him.  A taciturn man who taught him how to survive and taught him a trade but little else.  Lukas knows nothing of his mother.  When he was a boy he used to ask often about her, especially when he realised that other children had mothers.  'Gone..' would be the gruff reply.  Eventually, Lukas learnt not to ask any more questions.  His father's gone too now... though Lukas was no healer Granny Moescher said 'e'd got too much smoke in 'im.  Smoke 'ad tekin away 'is breath'.  Lukas knew one day the same would happen to him.  How could it be any different?
