Grew up on the outskirts of Brunswick OH, a small city in Northeast Ohio. He lived on a farm and raised in a bilingual household, his grandparents and father immigrating from Finland after WWII. As a kid he was in 4H, learned to ride horses at age seven and even competed in Western Dressage events until he was eighteen.

Played violin, taking lessons and was a member of the the high school band.

Had been prior service active duty 1989-1993 (11C), was a Specialist / E-4 at time of ETS.
1989-1991 = 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division, Fort Campbell KY (60mm / 81mm Mortars).
1991-1993 = 8th ID(M)  Baumholder FRG (4.2" mortars on M106A2).

After he ETS'd, Dane married his longtime girlfriend Danielle in '93. Obtained his CDL and started driving a commercial truck. Tragedy struck when his wife was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer, and Dane found himself widowed in 1996. Having nothing else to lose, Dane reenlisted when the war started. Assigned to Mortar Platoon HHC 5/5 Cavalry, 1st Brigade, 3rd Armored Division (Spearhead). In 1999, 5/5 Cav had been overrun, his vehicle destroyed and most of his platoon killed. Found himself unable to rejoin his division, was eventually captured, and while being transported to a Soviet POW camp, managed to escape during a rest stop. He attached himself to one friendly unit after another until he found himself with the current group.

Appearance: 6'2", 213lbs. Dark brown hair, blue eyes. Usually has a five o'clock shadow.

Attire: U.S. BDU blouse (original w/3AD (Spearhead) patch and nametag), boots & web gear, Bundeswehr flecktern trousers. Rotates band t-shirts. Wears a black "Motorhead" baseball cap. Gold wedding band on his ring finger.

Personality: Easygoing, but cynical about the current situation. Military bearing comes and goes, but takes his job seriously especially where survival is concerned.
