Marguerite St. Clair

General Information:

Name: Marguerite St. Clair

Nickname: Maggs, Maggie

Species: Dragon in human form.

Sexual Orientation: unknown

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Physical information:

Gender: Female

Age: Looks to be mid-20’s - just over 1500 years old

Human Hair Color: Deep Brown

Human Eye Color: Light Brown, but some could say Golden

Human Distinguishing Marks: The only one noticeable to most is a scar that runs from slightly above her left eyebrow by her nose into the crease of her eyelid. She does her best to cover it with makeup when she can. Underneath clothing, her body is marred by scars of various types. The largest is a dark wound on her back running from her right shoulder blade across her spine which seems fresh despite being there for ages.

Human Description of General Appearance: Maggie’s hair is dark brown and falls about her shoulders. She stands at about 5’7”, taller with heels, which she rarely wears. Her style tends to skew towards casual, at least for the moment, having spent the last portion of a lifetime in suits, skirts, and gowns. Her smile seems to come easy and her eyes tend to reflect kindness with some measure of caution. Her body type is average, with some strength apparent in slight muscle tone that suggests a regular workout routine and some evidence of manual labor but nothing intense.

Occupation: When the need for safety drove her to human form she passed the time working in many trades as many different people. She is the new owner of Juice & Java.

What brought you to Port Washington?
She’d heard about it through… and was in need of a new place to call home, having stayed in the last place long enough that her life was supposed to be all but over. She’d heard rumblings that this place might be more of a safe haven than others, a place to maybe stay longer than the hundred years or so that she’s normally allotted. There were also rumblings of a doctor in the area who may be able to help her current situation.

How long has your character been here?
A week or two

Personality Details:

Personality: Maggs is a strange mix of things, cobbled into one form, sometimes confident in what she thinks she knows, and other times completely astonished. After just over fifteen hundred years on the earth, she is still one of the younger of her species and was one of the more reckless ones. On the first meeting, Maggs can come off as easygoing with an air of confidence about her. She enjoys meeting new people and hearing about them, her own willingness to share personal details, however, is more reserved- though most wouldn’t know it from the ease and charm she uses to deflect things she’s uncomfortable with.

She does not seem to anger too easily, or if she does, it isn’t made obvious, most of her more negative emotions concealed to all but those she knows she can trust, and even then it’s not easy for her.

While she is not a mother hen or one to readily provide comfort, she will offer a friendly ear or uncomfortably offer a shoulder to cry on. Despite her attempts not to draw too much negative attention, she’s had a few run-ins with the law when her temper does snap.

Weaknesses: As a dragon, and a relatively young one, she is prone to hoarding. Most times she is drawn to the finer things, high price tags, exclusive pieces, or anything that shines. She manages to fight most of these impulses, or at least has become wiser with her savings, but has gotten into trouble with lenders and treasure seekers in the past.

She can be a proud animal which makes apologizing hard, despite this, she makes attempts in her own way when she feels it warranted.

She needs to receive medical care every few months for a “blood disorder” that rages out of control, one that most human doctors consider an anomaly but can be fixed with medication, rest, or a transfusion. In her dragon form, her left-wing is far weaker than her right due to an injury and lacking the ability to work to strengthen it back.

Background/History: While she’s young enough for a dragon, she’s lived lifetimes for humans. When she was just older than a hatchling, humans captured her and locked her in a pit, chained to rock walls until they needed her to fight their battles for them. There were others too, that loathed her kind or desired her parts and pieces to strengthen their own magic.

Then humans regretted what they’d done, realizing their error when her chains finally broke and she burned their city to the ground, vanishing into the smoke and the black.

She knew how to hide, and thus she became like them. At first she despised what she became, the pride of her species fighting hard against her drive for survival. She could only hide for months at a time, moving when her magic depleted and her form burst forth through the mask. Eventually months became years, became lifetimes and she started finding herself growing comfortable with the creatures she once despised, at least enough that she sometimes forgot they all weren’t like her.

There are still some though, who seek her, work sniff her out, and pursue her -for either her power or the things she’d collected. And so, every few lifetimes, she runs until her trail goes cold again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Education: Over her many years she’s gone to school multiple times for different things, occasionally earning a degree. However, most of those she cannot display or utilize since most are no longer in her “name”. The knowledge, however, remains. Most of her schooling was more out of a desire to learn than the need of a degree or career advancement.

Non-Educational Skills: Maggs is charismatic and has a decent ability to read people. It’s nothing overly complex but some of her favorite jobs of late have been ones as bartenders or servers. Places where she can talk to people, but from a safe distance. She enjoys updating and upgrading wherever she lives - taking on the minor renovations herself and tinkering with things she finds curious or that catch her attention. She enjoys cooking, though at the moment she’s more skilled in ordering takeout.

Magic: Most of her magic is based around spells and potions and self-taught. While she can perform “larger feats”, they can drain her for weeks if not months at a time, leaving her vulnerable and in danger of losing her human “mask”. The ones that require components also require some collection. She is minorly telepathic but only to those of her kind and only with offering/permission from both parties.

“Yes, this would do just fine.” she said, almost to herself as she walked through the coffee shop. It’d been some time since she worked in a setting like this but it ticked all the boxes and still allowed her to run the business side and grab the profits, not a bad thing. There were a few things she’d update but it was an opportunity to do what she enjoyed, and then pay others to do what she couldn’t.

It’d been some time since she’d thought to run a smaller business, her last stint being a far more lucrative arrangement. But she missed interacting with “normal” people, not the selfish ones, fighting for advancement at the cost of families and friends. The kinds that threw vast sums around like paper money from a board game.

She glanced down at her phone and scrolled through the photos when an alert popped up that darkened her features for a moment, but was gone as quickly as her finger could swipe it off the screen.

“I should be able to have the money for a down payment together by this evening if that works, just have to get some things in order first.”

It wasn’t a lie, she had to move some money around first, but she could’ve paid outright. Those types of things usually got her into trouble and raised eyebrows and she didn’t want to start off in a new place with that over her head.
