--------------------------------------------------------------------

Human Description of General Appearance: Luke is 5'9" with a lean frame and broad shoulders. Despite all the physical labor he does he bears no scars or other signs of past injuries. His clothing is a collection of inexpensive shirts from second hand stores, tough pants, sturdy boots, and durable work jackets. Depending on the occasion they could be dirty, covered in paint stains, or surprisingly clean.

His movements swing between two extremes influenced slightly by the phase of the moon. When he is relaxed or the moon is waning he moves slowly and confidently. Like a man who has all the time in the world and no worries. When agitated or the the moon is waxing his movements become sudden and explosive as his bestial nature comes

Alternate Appearance: Luke's wolf form is roughly the size of a horse with a shoulder height of six and a half feet and over eight feet long. Naturalists would note that it looks similar to a Eurasian Wolf from the Russian region. This form has light brown hair similar in color to his human form with a bit of white around the throat.

Personality Details:

Personality: Luke has old fashioned manners despite his efforts to blend in with the current era. He's relaxed, smiles easily, and is always happy to lend a hand if he has the time and the ability. He does still have a hard time understanding some of the new fashions and lifestyles but tries not to let it show.

Unfortunately he has a bit of a temper and when it is up, it shows. His body gets tense as he tries to control himself and not let on he is mad. He also has a tendency to yell or be overly aggressive when confronted. This gets worse closer to the full moon and it's not abnormal for him to avoid people a few days before or afterwards.

Strengths: Polite, charitable, and generally a good guy. Confident in his skills and that he can take care of himself.

Weaknesses: He doesn't like people (he thinks) are rude, lazy, or unpleasant. He also tends to be over confident or not care about risks. He also has mild PTSD from his time in WW2.

Fears: Luke is afraid of hurting people if he loses his temper. He's also afraid that he's going to run into someone on the full moon and either hurt them or create another person like him.

Background/History: 1923 - 2021
When asked, Luke will happily tell you that he was one of five children, his father was a railroad man and his mother took care of the kids. Prohibition was in full swing when he was growing up so Luke got used to the idea of bending the law when needed. His father’s job afforded him the chance to travel either going with him on trips or buying discounted tickets. Once he went all the way to New York to watch Babe Ruth play which is a memory that makes him smile to this day.

Black Tuesday changed all of that. The depression hit everyone hard though thankfully his father’s job was somewhat safe from the time. Rising prices forced Lukas out of school and into the workforce at a young age. He was too small to really do much but there are plenty of jobs that need small hands. As he got older he ended up becoming a migrant farm hand, traveling with the harvests to make money for the family.

Eventually he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) when he turned eighteen. He ended up alternating his time between forest culture and structural improvements, finding that he had a knack for both. The work was hard but he found that he enjoyed building and being outdoors in nature. Unlike those men who blew their own pay Lukas spent a fair amount of his money reading, something his mother had always encouraged. That or movies which he enjoyed immensely, especially the Wizard of Oz and The Wolf Man

He, like the rest of the world, watched the second world war begin in horror. Germany’s takeover of France and the foundation of Vichy France inspired him to join as soon as his CCC period allowed. His experience in the CCC made him an excellent candidate for engineer and he excelled in his training. As part of a larger strategy his unit was first sent to Vichy France as a “reserve” unit. He didn’t get out much then though he did pick up a bit of French which he would refine over the years.

When President Roosevelt cut diplomatic ties his unit was sent to the front where he worked on developing trench systems. Trench Warfare was not as prevalent in WW2 and he soon found himself in a mobile unit quickly repairing or fortifying buildings. It was during this time that his platoon was sent to a village to find a secure place for a mobile command. Unfortunately for his platoon another visitor had come to the village, a Varúlfur forced from its home by the war.

The varúlfur under the full moon attacked his platoon before fleeing into the night, the soldiers dealing enough damage to the creature to make it do so. Half of Lukas’ platoon died and the other half were found shortly after with severe injuries. They all however recovered very quickly, too quickly in fact and the field hospital that had been set up for them was baffled. On the next full moon the men discovered what had happened to them when almost two dozen men transformed for the first time.

Half of them died in the process as their beasts attacked each other before scattering. The beasts made quick work of the villagers and in the morning there was nothing but carnage. The survivors swore an oath of secrecy and then destroyed the village and evidence of what happened. Afterwards they were scattered to the winds and tried to blend in as much as they could. Lukas isn’t sure what happened to the others and doesn’t like to talk on the subject.

After the war Lukas used the GI bill to learn carpentry and masonry skills so he could continue building. When he realized that he was no longer appearing to age he began to travel to various towns as the post-war boom offered prosperity. That is until the 1958 recession hit and he was forced to work in warehouses or other manual labor jobs. Complicating this was that the Red Scare and Vietnam War draft dodgers made people wary of outsiders. In loved with the romanticized West from the show Have Gun, Will Travel, Lukas moved out west ending up in California

The seventies were better and feeling somewhat stagnant after decades of the same routine he began to focus more on self improvement. He began to go to trade schools and apprenticed for others until he had to leave town and even started practicing martial arts. Fighting had been a choice between a beating or possibly murdering someone until he found Aikido and a chance for a different path. As he learned and grew he realized something important.

He no longer connected with the people around him. While he physically looked in his twenties he was well into his fifties and the culture had changed drastically. With the invention of technology and the internet the world became a bit more difficult for him to work in. Thankfully there were others who understood his plight in the supernatural community and he began to spend more time with them. Younger werewolves in particular appreciated his wisdom and the hope that they too could reach old age.

Shortly after 9/11 Lukas realized that he was the oldest werewolf that most people knew. Age finally catching up with him he began to look for someplace that he could settle down without too much trouble. Politics kept him moving for a while, too many werewolves had taken Rudolph Shenkel’s view of wolf packs to heart. Having an elder werewolf who could boast that he fought the Nazis was too much for many.

Finally he heard of a little place called Port Washington. The place was a haven for supernatural creatures and he liked the idea of being able to operate in the open for more than a few years. Recruitment was easy and before he knew it he was a resident of the lovely little town building all manner of strange things. For the first time in nearly eighty years he had a place he could plan for the long term, and he very much liked the idea of that.

Skills and Abilities:

Education: Luke graduated high school though long ago. Over the decades he's gone to school for carpentry, plumbing, construction, electrician, heating and cooling systems, and masonry. He also knows Aikido and has been practicing it for a few decades.

Non-Educational Skills: Luke was in the army and knows a bit about firearms and explosives. A long life has given him a wealth of experience, making him good at socializing and reading people. He's also well read in the classics and various works of fiction, though he does admittedly enjoy quite a few TV shows and movies.

While it is hardly something he boasts about he has some skill with gardening and forestry, though he’s only started really developing it since coming to Port Washington. He’s been trying to encourage victory gardens as well as planting flower beds around his property.

Magic, Werewolf Physiology: Luke only transforms on the full moon or when he suffers a lethal level of damage for a human. However his body and senses are much better than human.
