Alastair

Character Name:  Alastair
Race:  Human
Discipline:  Wizard

Background:  Alastair grew up in an inn in Travar called The Tipsy Troajin, founded by a retired beastmaster (Howarth Steelclaw) and his wizard wife (Gayle Gallantyne), and a popular hangout for adepts.  As a gregarious boy, he was always in the common room, hanging around listening to stories, making friends, and basically immersed in the adventuring lifestyle.

He showed the potential for becoming an adept, but not the slightest inclination to become a beastmaster (to this day he's still a little scared of Bartok, his father's Troajin, who's basically everyone's pet).  He seemed attracted to all the disciplines, couldn't really make up his mind, and didn't find one that suited him perfectly; though he was always more interested in magic than in fighting. He started learning with his mother, but he was a teenager, and more interested in visiting with the elven adventurers who came through the inn, hanging out with them under the guise of learning and expanding his horizons.  His mother had always spoiled him, so she indulged him completely, but when his father realized he'd passed the first-circle exam and couldn't so much as cast a basic wizard spell, he put his foot down.

Howarth realized that Gayle couldn't be an effective teacher, so he arranged for Alastair to receive formal academic training in Throal.  Alastair went along quite happily, as his fickle ways had begun to cause strife among some of the regulars, and he thought it best to let things cool down.  He went off to Throal for a 2 year stint of paid training, and he came back with odd mannerisms and a peculiar way of speaking, but he'd settled his mind somewhat, and trained as a Wizard.  He'd also managed to charm his way into learning a few other things, too, and though his father didn't say anything, he did notice that the young man was back 2 months earlier than he'd been expected.  Almost as if he'd needed to leave in a hurry.

Alastair went back to hanging around the inn's common room, but this time with more purpose, trying to find other adventurers to travel with.  He managed to go on a couple of expeditions, but he found that most of the adventurers that frequented the common room thought of him as that kid they liked, rather than a potential party-member.  So he headed off to find people that didn't know him as a boy, but could get to know him as a hero...

Homeland:  Travar

General outlook on life:  Curious and optimistic.  The groups he travelled with never faced horrors or went through any terribly harrowing experiences, so he still has a naive view of adventuring, and that it's all fun and games.
