Jadar

quote:
His own appearance was much, much less unassuming at first glance, but looking at him for too long revealed a man who could probably snap your neck if you made him angry.  He was taller than his admiral, even in her boots, though not by much.  He had very wide shoulders and long, powerful arms, ropey and well-muscled from years of grueling work.  He had the large hands to match, missing his left ring finger above the first knuckle from a grievous wound, but despite that and their size his fingers were very deft and nimble.  He actually did the calligraphy on the ship’s bow of the vessel’s names and could write and draw very prettily.

Jadar himself could not be called pretty because there was nothing delicate about him, just his art.  He had a powerful yet underwhelming look about him, majestic, yet unassuming as he was often very quiet.  He was half Grax and half Sjobor, with a mahogany complexion.  Despite the roll of years, he still had hair, not that it mattered because he always wore a headwrap, as many sailors did.  His facial hair was naturally thin, he could not grow much of a beard or mustache, but despite this he did his best to grow in a beard.  His linen shirt and pants were loose and simple, but well made, but Hilda secretly hated his footwear.  Jadar was usually barefoot, but that did not work in this season due to the cold, so he’d put on wool stockings and his feet were held in wooden sandals.  It looked terrible.
