Istje is of a height to meet the eyes of most men without tilting her head. Her body is lean and graceful, but far more hard than soft. Even more than her musculature, the scars on her hands suggest that she's got a habit of addressing problems with violence. Despite that, her eyes are bright and her mouth usually curves into an encouraging smile. Sometimes her shirt will be open far enough to see the oddly bent flame tattooed on her sternum; more often it is the carved ivory version of the symbol hanging around her neck that people see. She dresses for comfort and function--no jewelry beyond the holy symbol, no decorations. The most expensive part of her ensemble is likely her boots, which are fine enough to have merited resoling several times.

On the Remorse, Istje is a charming nuisance. Everybody knows her, and she doesn't make it easy to keep a neutral opinion. Istje talks readily about what she's done since leaving Fettsvald, but little about her life before that. Most of her stories seem to end in a brawl, somebody changing their position in life, or comedies of errors. They're funny enough that people tend to listen even when they start to skew toward parable.
