Previously, Hjild worked as part of a bodyguard service for traveling merchants or other clients with his brothers and nephews. The company decided to disband after continuously being undercut by common sell-swords. While most of his brothers and his uncle (founder and coordinator of the company) decided to return to their homes, Hjild decided to continue on his own to try to find work. After hearing about a Keep near the borderlands, he figures this may be an opportunity to establish a new career. So with his due wages, he bids farewell to his uncle, his brothers and their sons, and sets off for this Keep on the Borderlands..

Hjild tends to be soft spoken and a dwarf of few words, but not introverted or standoffish. He is never rushed when he speaks and will often pause to reflect for a quick second or two when asked a question or spoken to. He is sometimes apt to intersperse his speech with dry or observational humor which reveals a bit of mischief in his character.
