There's something "off" about Polzeath, the Doctor's keen and faithful Cornish valet, but it's hard to work out what it is. He looks put together wrong, though no part of him seems deformed in itself (discounting slight webbing between his long fingers that he attributes to a "mermaid" grandmother). He's healthy, intelligent, and kind, often fielding complaints from children with scraped knees and other minor injuries before they can bother his master. He does have a tendency towards superstition and has lately developed an anxiety about direct contact with the ground, but tries to keep this from drawing notice or disrupting his duties as best he might.
