One of the current guests at the Hall and a Cambridge friend of the Squire's, Paul is still studying law but has leapt at the opportunity to mingle amongst the English country gentry and observe old things and traditions. Equipped with a Christian name and nominal faith from his convert father, near-accentless English and the wealth early allyship with the East India Company has as yet left in his family's hands, Paul hopes to learn as much as he might about the Britisher mindset, embed himself as an equal amongst gentry, and generally have fun in the wild depths of Somerset. He'd prefer it if they kept hounds, but if there aren't always deer to stalk, there is a library, the local landscape to explore, and various entertainments about the Hall.
