CS-4227-13 was born and bred to be a Squad leader. From his earliest memories to the latest bloody mission, he has been tasked with one simple overriding mission: to lead his Squad and keep his brothers safe. Even if that were not part of his training and programming, CS-4227-13 would have chosen to follow the later part of his mission regardless, for war forges strong, unbreakable bonds. The Lucky 13th aren't merely Clones of the same individual, same as him, nor are they simply the pod-mates that he grew up with. They are the family that he has built over years of grueling war against an enemy that outnumbers them many times over.

As such, CS-4227-13 doesn't see leadership as a programmed right, but a profound responsibility that he is obligated to constantly improve himself at undertaking. As such, CS-4227-13 will listen intently to his brothers about the areas of expertise that they excel at, and he will even tolerate questioning of his orders during the planning stages. However, when the blaster bolts are flying, or he has come to his final decision, CS-4227-13 expects to be obeyed, and will book no defiance. It is a rare kind of officer that knows when to let things slide and when to crack the whip, but CS-4227-13 has found that balance. It is because of this respect that he shows his squad mates that he earned the name Doyen. Which he wears with pride. Some common Troopers that look down on the Lucky 13th might spit his name with sarcastic disdain, but Doyen lets it roll off his back with the usual dry wit that he shows with most things.

Doyen is much more likely to complain about the scouring of his armor's paint job than the gaping wound beneath it, for example. It is in this quiet humor that Doyen finds his sanity in an insane war. He has often requested that if he should fall, that if his squad-mates have the ability to bury him, his headstone should read "Even in death, he is still the prettiest Clone."
