Although Sully is of average height and weight, he seems like a smaller man, probably because of his pudgy body, slightly slumped posture, and generally rumpled clothing (except when he’s dressed for the opera or a theatrical opening). He isn't particularly graceful, even a bit clumsy.

His usual brown suits are off-the-rack, though inexpensive rather than cheap, usually flecked with cigarette ash from the Old Golds he chain smokes. He’s of (barely) average appearance with slightly protuberant eyes which, with his wide mouth, make for a frog-like impression.

His usual speech is measured and quiet. This changes when he’s in pursuit of a story. Then he is entirely focused on getting whatever information he can from his subject. He’s also good at linking facts and making intuitive connections to link what he has uncovered into a coherent story. That quality is what makes him a good reporter.
