While generally similar in build and appearance to her older sister, Melisende can be differentiated from her sibling by the colour of her hair, and by an additional inch of height, a fact she never lets Margot forget. Despite recently reaching her eighteenth year, she still seems to be embracing the comparative freedom of her youth, rarely doing more than tying her flaxen hair back, and often been scolded for coming back into the house with mud on her hands from an afternoon in the fields around Biard.

Despite Margot's best efforts, her sister hasn't been fully sheltered from the world around them. Her opinion of her uncle is hardly flattering, and she's never been reluctant to let him know about that. On the whole, she's known around Biard for being the more free spirited of the siblings (although one detractor has sniffily opined that feral might be a better descriptor), but those closer to her suspect that this may be more a defence mechanism against the darkening horizon of adult responsibilities than any actual lack of sophistication.
