History: Bennet du Paris was born in the twelfth century in Europe. When he was old enough, he participated in the Third Crusade under King Philip II of France. While in the Holy Land, Bennet searched for the ancient Tower of Power in the city of Akkaba, present day West Bank north of Jerusalem. He traveled alone, through heat and sandstorms, before collapsing in exhaustion. Through the howling storm a voice called out to him, asking him if he was willing to risk everything to become one of the strong. Paris was tested by the ancient mutant Apocalypse and was found worthy, the other mutant causing his mutant abilities to manifest for the first time.
When Apocalypse demanded that Bennet bow down to him, he turned against the "false god" and fought him, only to be easily defeated and trapped in a crypt in the Swiss Alps, several thousand miles away. Many centuries later, the crypt was opened by another of Apocalypse's minions, the devious Mister Sinister. He subjected Bennet to many many tests and attempted to control him, bending his will to his own. Bennet fought back, and in a mighty psychic battle, Bennet was able to fight for his freedom, disappearing in a blinding flash after expending nearly all of his energy.
