Background Born in New England to a lawyer she went to a private school before going to university to study science.  She majored in Biology and gained a teaching diploma too.  She enjoys teaching science and has a gift of making the subject interesting to her students.  She does not however take well to students who are lazy and can give low grades if she thinks they are slacking. Though she does not realise it she favours the girls over boys, probably because she thinks they will have to work harder to get on.

She had worked in a private school but it had got into financial difficulties and had to close so Penny took this job to fill in while deciding what to do next with her life.
