History:
Erik was able to get an ROTC scholarship so he could attend college. While in college he majored in psychology, hoping to become a psychologist at a later date.  His military training was in the cavalry (mounted vehicle combat).  When he graduated college in 2017, he was commissioned a second lieutenant and went off to his initial officer training which was finished in late 2017.
In 2018, Erik he was assigned to be a platoon leader and his unit was deployed to Afghanistan. In March while his platoon was out on patrol, Erik was wounded in his right shoulder by sniper fire. Later on in December of 2018, the platoon became engaged in a firefight. His Humvee was hit with a rocket propelled grenade and he was severely injured with shrapnel in his abdomen. None of the rest of the crew survived and he has some guilt over that. His unit rotated back to the US in 2019. He finished out his tour in 2021 and left the army. He was planning to go back to school and complete his training to become a psychologist.

He is on the cruise ship because he wanted to take a vacation and take some time off before he started college.
