Character History
Robert Timoti (Timothy) Eriksen was born at Avondale Army Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand on August 12th, 1945. His father, Brock Eriksen, was a member of the U.S. Army Pacific Forces stationed in New Zealand during World War II, his mother, Anahera, was a nurse at the nearby Field Hospital run by the New Zealand Army. The pair had a brief romance before Brock was deployed to the island of Okinawa, during the U.S. Island Hopping Campaign in the waning days of the war. Brock would be wounded on Okinawa, and would be returned to the states, so he would not get to see his son or be with him until 1948, when Brock was able to get a visa for Anahara and US citizenship for Robert.

On March 16th, 1965, eight days after U.S. Marines landed at Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam, Robert Eriksen enlisted in the U.S. Army. His decision was initially lambasted by his father, who has watched with growing horror the conflict, and the accompanying death toll, in Vietnam. However, Robert rightfully pointed out that his father had also served his country in a time of war, and that this war was something that Robert believed in.

Robert attended initial Basic Military Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before attending Advanced Technical Training as a Human Intelligence Collector/Interrogator. He was assigned to the 224th Military Intelligence Battalion in Saigon, South Vietnam. In 1968 he was transferred to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Robert was injured in 1975 assisting in the evacuation of US Military and US State Department personnel from Saigon shortly before the entire city was captured by the North Vietnamese Army. The injury was severe enough that Robert was medically discharged from the Army in August 1975.
